Re: Rituals (rasumat)
I know one but I was wondering what the point of it is? When the bride is brought back to the house after the Rukhsati, the MIL and/or SILs take a matkafilled with water and circulate it around the bride's head and drink's from it. Sometimes the bride and groom actually play pretend to stop them. What is that about?
Another rasm that I enjoy is the gharoli, where the groom's family and friends, before the baraat, go and fill a matka from a well or a neighbour's house so that the groom can "bathe" with it. My aunt currently wants to do this for my cousin even though it'll be really impractical as we live in England.
we did gharoli at my mamu's wedding and it was so much fun! i've also seen doodh pilai, jootha chupai, the bride reading Quran when she gets to in laws after rukhsati and giving youngest devar money. another one that someone mentioned before is that 'saat suhagan' thing except i've seen 7 married women from the groom's side taking it in turns sipping milk from a glass then passing it on to the bride to take a sip at the end. i've also seen the rice throwing rasam but i don't like that since it involves throwing food on the floor and ppl end up stepping on it.

There's another rasm where the MIL gives the bride gold bangles when she enters the house...

**That's quite interesting! I have never seen it or heard about it, though. **
Re: Rituals (rasumat)
Thanks Angele for explainng the "dukh dard" matka.
Never heard of these but it sounds a bit similar to hindu/sikh weddings where they carry matkas on their head. Don't know the significance though but saw a few pics on some photographer's site. Do you have any pics to share?
I'm guessing it probably has something to do with the fact that in the olden days people in the village only had one water supply which they'd all get their water from.
At my mamus' ghorolis, we'd fill the matka, and then do "ludi" (if that's what its called), and if the matka was being filled from a neighbours house, then the neighbour would also have to provide refreshments.
I just remembered that I also went to my khalu's ghoroli as well, so maybe the gharoli isn't restricted to just the groom's family, but that might be because my khala and khalu are from the same village though.
