Rituals (rasumat)

Hey!!!
Frnds…Lets talk about the rasumat of Wedding.

Re: Rituals (rasumat)

i hate all that fighting over stage ... over shoe and milk ... so ghetto ... kinda stone age sort of thing ...

Re: Rituals (rasumat)

Its only fun when ur the bride/groom/recipient of money... otherwise its boring as hell

Re: Rituals (rasumat)

Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I also hate but its fun but we should not be so eager to have money from Dulha bhai...... Right??????????

Re: Rituals (rasumat)

There’s this one rasam where the dulha puts light glitter (or something of that kind) in the dulhan’s maang. I am guessing this is derived from the whole sindoor in the maang by someone who was obviously very fascinated but decided to give it a ‘modern’ look by changing it to glitter.

I like the whole mirror rasam, it’s so cute. I recently saw pics of a wedding where they brought out the dulhan with her face covered completely and they had this gorgeously designed mirror in which the couple saw each other and then they took the veil off her face. It was more like, no guy should see her face before her own husband

Re: Rituals (rasumat)

@shay9164:)
Hi!!!!!!!!
The first rasm u told z not dat much gud for MUSLIMS because it z Hindu kinda rasm (wot say????????) but d 2nd one z nice.........................But now dese days dre z no dulha and dulhan who have not seen dere spouse before wedding.

Re: Rituals (rasumat)

C'mon girls give more informations abt rituals.................................

Re: Rituals (rasumat)

^even if they have seen each other, it's just cute to see each other dressed up as bride and groom in the mirror thingy. and about the glitter thing, yeah it's a hindu rasam but aren't most of the traditions derived from india anyway.

Re: Rituals (rasumat)

No its not a hindu rasam and isnt related to the sindoor.

Its called the Suhaag Poora or something. You can either have it in a decorated jewellery box or a decorated tray

Its got 7 items in it like afshaan, kajal and 5 other things that I have forgotten.

The groom then takes each item and gives it to the bride.

Its always done in my Dads family in every wedding BUT its not done in the hall infront of everyone. More of a family thing so when they bring the bride home its done then.

Re: Rituals (rasumat)

^oh, we don't do seven things. it's just one rasam of the glitter at the actual nikkah in front of everyone. thats why alot of people in my family say it's influenced by the whole sindoor thing. but the seven one sounds interesting- tell me more about it...

Re: Rituals (rasumat)

Aaah its been too long for me to remember it that clearly, the only thing I remember is my great grand mother, my dadis mum fussing over it when I got married.

She insisted the ex-inlaws to make sure they brought the Suhag poora even though they are from the same baradari and do the same rasams.

The platter or in my case it was one of those silver jewellery boxes with seven compartments, each compartment is decorated with red material and gota and each compartment holds one of the seven items.

I remember kajal and afshaan cause I made a huge fuss bout both the items as I hate both of 'em.

Then I think it has choorian or kangan and other stuff. Blah

Its all cute and lovely if you are getting married to the person you know, it was a bit strange and annoying for me.

Re: Rituals (rasumat)

And then there is the stupid washing feet of the bride with milk by the nand.

Simply retarded rasam but still practiced by my dads side of the family. :vivo:

Re: Rituals (rasumat)

i had heard about this rasam where the groom’s younger brother asks the bride(that is his new bhabhi) for money…and thats not it…he sits in her lap to ask for it…:smack:
it happens when the bride goes to the groom’s house…that is after the rukhsati…

i had never ever seen it before i had to go through it myself…:frowning:
although i was lucky enough not to have the ‘devar’ sit in my lap…heheh…it was a humble affair the next morning, when he very shyly asked for something…
and thanks to a dera friend’s mom,who had known about this rasam, she had handed me an envelop with some money,a day before to use if needed…

Re: Rituals (rasumat)

All these rasams are so cute. I want to do each and every one (however silly it maybe) on my wedding. I love the one adre mentioned and I like chips' even though it's not amusing to have a devar sit on you.. but it's still cute to give him money.

Re: Rituals (rasumat)

Oh yeah, I have seen those happen at valima- the nands wash the groom and bride’s feet in milk and then they get money for it. It’s a weird one.. I don’t have any nands to do it though. But if I am asked to do it in my brother’s wedding then NO NO NO.

Re: Rituals (rasumat)

Sitting one is okay i suppose if the Devar is like a little kid.

I'd kick a grown man trying to sit in my lap though :D

Re: Rituals (rasumat)

^ hahahah dt is called goda thorai or sumfin in punjabi adro the sindoor poora karna rasam souns sooo romantic , we dint hve any specific rasams on our weddin lolz i had the gana put on my hand by my mamu bt dts abt it

Re: Rituals (rasumat)

For baraat, we did doodh-pilai and rasta rokhna. After the rukhsati, when his family came back w/ us to the hotel, there were some rasams, like the older bhabhi (most recentlly married one) puts surma ni the grooms eyes and then he gives her money lol. I did the same thing for my devars wedding...

And the other rasam, its done on the valeema, I doubt that the devar will REALLY sit on the brides lap (groom's maybe hehe) but they sat on teh stage at our feet.....and it wasnt just him, all the brothers and sister and friends joined in lol. Then at his wedding, even though hes the youngest, we alllll sat and asked for the paisa... :D

Re: Rituals (rasumat)

can’t stand these dumb rituals :nook: waste of time and money

Re: Rituals (rasumat)

heheheh...:D

i guess its just called so...that the devar sits in the bhabhi's lap....i dont think so any grown man will do that actually...!!
