Never heard of these but it sounds a bit similar to hindu/sikh weddings where they carry matkas on their head. Don’t know the significance though but saw a few pics on some photographer’s site. Do you have any pics to share?

I’m guessing it probably has something to do with the fact that in the olden days people in the village only had one water supply which they’d all get their water from.

At my mamus’ ghorolis, we’d fill the matka, and then do “ludi” (if that’s what its called), and if the matka was being filled from a neighbours house, then the neighbour would also have to provide refreshments.

I just remembered that I also went to my khalu’s ghoroli as well, so maybe the gharoli isn’t restricted to just the groom’s family, but that might be because my khala and khalu are from the same village though.
