Re: Rituals (rasumat)
I know one but I was wondering what the point of it is?
When the bride is brought back to the house after the Rukhsati, the MIL and/or SILs take a matkafilled with water and circulate it around the bride’s head and drink’s from it. Sometimes the bride and groom actually play pretend to stop them. What is that about?
Another rasm that I enjoy is the gharoli, where the groom’s family and friends, before the baraat, go and fill a matka from a well or a neighbour’s house so that the groom can “bathe” with it. My aunt currently wants to do this for my cousin even though it’ll be really impractical as we live in England.
***Never heard of these but it sounds a bit similar to hindu/sikh weddings where they carry matkas on their head. Don’t know the significance though but saw a few pics on some photographer’s site.
Do you have any pics to share?***
