A lot of guys from USA, Canada and UK try to get married in countries like Pakistan and Middle East and I have heard many stories of poor girls knowing about their husband’s first marriage afterwards.
How to go about the rishta inquiry/ investigation process? I would especially like to know whether we can find if the person has been already married or divorced especially in countries like USA, Canada and UK? Are there any web sites from there we can find about their previous marriage and/ or divorce? Heard a lot of Desi guys go for marriage there for green card purpose and then they get married again back home. How to know if the guys was not previously married/ divorced (either for green card purpose or for real marriage purpose)?
I have heard that information like marriage, divorce, death etc are considered as public information in USA and anyone can request such information about anybody there in USA. Would highly appreciate such web sites which can help in such inquiry. I am more concerned about the previous marriage/ divorce thing in USA, other things like education, job, salary etc can be easily found out from various sources.
in the US and Canada, u can hire a Private Investigator :) he is armed with modern tools like camera and listening devices :) they are devils in action on earth :)
If you are marrying in a foreign country, then you have to take the risks. There can be a lot more than the first marriage that may be revealed to the poor girl.

I just want to have the basic information like the guy is never-married and not previously married/ divorced before my mom starts the talk in order to save the time as we already had a bad experience where the talks had reached some matured stage and then it was revealed that the guy was divorced… it was a shock for all of us and definitely caused us mental torture… really do not want to go through all this and do not want to experience it again…

**TRUE...u will be able to get facts about the person which is a public record while anything else u can't find out.
for example, if a guy is known to be a bad character to the neighbourhood, his character will still show a clean one because he hasn't been convicted of any crimes yet.

Find out where he lives and go to the local village/city hall. Start there first. You can go to the websites for the city hall and see what services they offer - even call them up and ask them where you should go if you need to pull up a divorce record.](“http://www.govmarriagerecords.org”)

Some counties have web sites where you can just type in a person's name and find out. Other counties require you to go there in person. Yet in other counties, if you're not a private investigator or some other "official", you can NOT find out the information.
On top of that....it would be impossible for you to do a search of every single county. For example, most people get married in the same county they live in. However, if the guy moved OR went to a different city/state to get married....then that would not come up during a search on their county.
Bottom line: Yes the information is public BUT there are "tricks" to finding the info. and even then, you may encounter some red tape depending on the specific city/county. The best thing is to spend a little money and hire a private investigator who will dig up not only previous marriage/divorce records....but almost anything else that you might want to know. PI's can also verify education/employment.....heck they can even follow the guy to make sure that the guy doesn't have a girlfriend while he's sending rishta to you!

Thanks for the detailed reply and amazing information... I didn't know private investigators are a serious profession in the US just for investigating for a rishta... But definitely this should be done when things are quite matured and we are about to finalise the rishta...

umm i dont know if the pvt investigator thing that you guys think is the way to go is really the way to go because these situations are more often than not pretty sensitive and finding out about that even later on in marriage may cause issues, no? (assuming the marriage goes through in the first place)

Right... What if the husband later finds out k meri jasoosi kerwai thi... U had doubts on my character etc etc... And what is the guarantee that the private investigator does not inform the guy that he has been paid for doing ihis investigation and also gets money from the guy to provide us with wrong information about the guy...
he wont find out, dont worry. better to hire one than to realize after marriage what a mistake you've made. you carrying out private research anyway, that also shows you dont trust him! its your call, if you are satisfied with your own investigation, then by all means forget the PI.
^ ok there is a BIG difference in hiring an investigator and finding out on your own. Prior investigation about the guy and the family is the norm. But thats called asking around and it has nothing to do with detectives. im sorry if im not modern enough =p
1) Private investigators for the most part don't care "WHY" you want to investigate a person. People hire them to find out whether or not their spouse is cheating on them, to track down dead-beat dads, discover insurance fraud etc. etc. etc.
2) Yes, PI is a legal profession i the U.S. Lawyers, insurance companies etc. use them regularly. Different states have difference licensing criteria for them. PI's also have access to certain web sites that "normal people" don't have access to. Find out the city the potential rishta lives in, do a search on PI's on that city, and then go from there.
3) A good PI won't "betray" you and tell the other party that you're investigating them. You hire them, pay them, and they give you the information they come up with. Simple. Unless you (or someone in your family or one of your friends who knows you did this) tells the future husband that you hired a PI, there's no way for the person to find out. Just destroy all the info. that the PI gives you as soon as you review it. Let's not get into filmy situations about the PI contacting the guy to get more money.
