$200,000 - $400,000 is very common among MDs. All the ones’s I know (and I know quite a few) make this much right after fellowship. Heck in certain specialties, $500,000K is easy to make by the time the M.D. is in their mid to late 30’s. Based on that…in your case…what made him so powerful? Did he actually consider himself rich and “powerful”?
