Rich people's playgrounds.

Name some cities and/or countries which are rich people’s playgrounds, as in places which attract the richest tourists who go there to spend big dollars in style. And when I mean style, I just don’t mean staying at a Holiday Inn, but showing up in your private plane/yacht, and bringing your Lamborghini along. Is “people’s” used correctly?

I will start

  • Dubai
  • Monaco
  • Las Vegas (maybe).
  • Macau (but isn’t this place poor as a slum in Karachi?)
  • Paris in summer (heard plenty of exotics with Gulf plates to be seen there during that time).

Re: Rich people's playgrounds.

Hmm, I visited Macau last summer. It is still under heavy, heavy construction. As a tourist I was not able to see many of the seedy parts. We visited some friends who lived in residential condos and those were also very nice. I will say though, the casinos and tourist spots were integrated into the city and not isolated, like Vegas for instance. If it is a poor city I was not able to tell. My prediction is that it will continue to flourish and develop over the next few years (although, this may take longer due to the economy.)

What about Palm Beach?

The Carribean Islands, like Turks and Caicos?

French West Indies, St Barts, etc?

Rich people love secluded beaches and islands. Then again, don't we all?

Thanks for the info about Macau, didn't know all that.

I forgot about Palm Beach.

Oh and to add to the list

  • Nantucket Island. Didn't see any Lambos, I doubt the roads there are good for these kind of sports cars. But so many Range Rovers, Land Cruisers and Cayennes, and these SUVs are pretty expensive in the US.

  • Martha's Vineyard. Never been.

Re: Rich people's playgrounds.

Oh, how about the Hamptons? I've been watching a lot of The Real Housewives of New York :-/

What is Nantucket Island like?

Seculuded beach kind of a place. Closed during winter, no casinos or anything, known for it's "New England" charm.

Oh, and did you find it charming?

Yes, it was quite nice. No nanga pan, no lewd stuff going, no over emphasis on bars or clubs, no over crowding and no dirty water.

That sounds very nice, much nicer than most of the places that we've listed as the playgrounds for the rich.

Seems like Abu Dhabi wants to add itself to that list:

Emirates Palace offers ‘world’s most expensive holiday’ - Travel & Hospitality - ArabianBusiness.com

Is “Spa” a code word for something else those countries are getting known more and more for recently? At that price, it would seem like it.

From the article

Abrahams told the paper that the package is aimed at “celebrities, luminaries and businessmen”.

What exactly does one need to do to become a luminary? Sign me up.

it starts from being a lunatic :)

Speaking from experience :-P?
