If battery is used to generate H2 which is used in ice - why not use battery directly tonpower the car and cut out the middle woman - which here is the electrolyzer and ice engine?

That will be perpetual machine defying the second law of thermodynamics. Inventor is telling something different. He is utilizing chemical energy released by re-combining H2 and O2. This is not a brand new concept. I have posted a detailed article how this energy is used to run the engine. Read it.
