At what age do you see your self retiring? if you plan to retire early, what strategy have you devised to be able to sustain financially ?
Re: Retirement

Re: Retirement
The question is what to do after retiring.
Re: Retirement
hmmm .. Southie, best thing to do would be take it easy and just enjoy less stressful work instead of taking on full time projects or full time work. or probably just holiday every so often !
Re: Retirement
My husband plans on continuing his passion for flying…he’s an FAA certified flight instructor and has a couple students right now too. After retiring from his professional job he will still continue with his flying, maybe become a crop duster ![]()

Re: Retirement
I won't retire from work. I can't sit idle and this is the sole reason why I hate bed rest at times of illness. I won't like to watch cartoons with kids, be a joker amongst children in parks or old age honeymoon with wife at Paris rather I would find another job, some design assignment in any consultancy [in my retirement age]
Re: Retirement
I just saw an advert on FB for ‘The 15 Minute Retirement Plan’. I was hoping retirement would last just a little bit longer… ![]()

I love your Halwa Poori retirement plan X2 ![]()
I have to agee with Anjul, sitting idle is not really a very lucrative thing, I guess retirement only means ending of a full time career. but one can still carry out easier jobs or less hour working jobs .

Re: Retirement
About 20 years to go for me if we we follow conventional wisdom. Strategies are same as some said up real estate and multiple streams on income. For me thing i that I am in energy field which I love but its not my dream job. Dream job was being a teacher so I think may be i can get a teaching degree / certificate for retirement :) On separate note, people who live in US and have 401k Plans, are you planning to let the money stay or use it some how? Like right now I am thinking to loan against my 401k to purchase something in real estate and paymyself interest back... easier said than done but curious if others have thought about it?
Re: Retirement

Re: Retirement
Sorry cant help you with the US perspective , since I am UK based but I can suggest that going the property route isnt your only option. If you place so much importance to teaching , why not become a private tutor? Work towards that goal as a side income.
You see, retirement may mean total goodbye to work life for many , but than again, for many others retirement only means goodbye to a full time employment and they still have to work on and off for smaller periods of time on smaller income . In essence they dont account for a stable income or a job.
In my opinion, when one has nothing to do , life can become really boring and only gives more space to illnesses. So keep yourself busy with your other skills that you never got time to enhance through your life .
