Respect for Teachers

I observed a decline in this trend of respecting teachers in our society.

What could be the reasons for this?

Coaching centers, where teachers run their money making machines? Overall decline in respect of elders in society?

There was a time, when people used to meet teachers very humbly (even some people used to meet teachers by touching their feet), but now there is no such trend. Another thing that I observed is some students calling their teachers ‘yaar’ :hayaa:

Re: Respect for Teachers

Student used to concentrate only on education before. And the teachers used to treat the pupils like their own kids. Same trend is being followed in schools even today and the students respect their teachers like in olden days but i guess in college and universities because of the independent atmosphere the students and teachers are rather casual towards each other, maybe because there's not much of a age difference there either. If the teachers are firm and strict towards the students they aren't liked but if they are friendly then the chances of the students respecting them decrease.

Re: Respect for Teachers

There was a time that if teacher just looked student with anger it was enough for student to behave, but recently we heard some incidents where students were beaten to death. Such incidents also are the reasons behind decline in respecting teachers. The way teachers behave (not all) also affect the image and saying that Teaching is a Prophetic profession.

Re: Respect for Teachers

Tell me abt it

Re: Respect for Teachers

You tell us. You are the party to suit

Re: Respect for Teachers

well , numerous factors are involved in the decline in respect

Re: Respect for Teachers

list down a few

Respect for Teachers

I didn't like one of my teacher because her daughter was my class fellow and her mother ( teacher) was very nice with her and strict with us.

Re: Respect for Teachers

^ maslan?

Re: Respect for Teachers

don't tell me that

Re: Respect for Teachers

you mean everyone shares the responsibility

Re: Respect for Teachers

Too many professors at university level are just mediocre or below even that. Not all though.

It's an overall decline. So many people don't even respect their own parents...forget teachers

Re: Respect for Teachers

But that was natural for her to treat her daughter in better way

Re: Respect for Teachers

ofcourse everyone shares it.

Re: Respect for Teachers

so its overall decline in respect for elders in society thats also affecting teachers.

Recently, I observed that in Pakistan ACCA students get coaching from senior students, who passed that subject 6 months - a year back. Does the little or no difference in age play any role?

Re: Respect for Teachers

It does. It's hard to respect someone barely older than you. It really blurs the lines.

On that note I remember the story of a famous physicist who very young, so young that he could sit in undergraduate lectures and fit in perfectly. Needless to say he used this to pick up girls.
