Respect for Prophets

I remember growing up and reading about the Prophets sent by Allah swt. Whenever I said any of their names, I was told to attach ‘alayh salam’ to them. Basically, I have seen almost all of us Muslims giving immense respect to all Prophets of Allah swt. I have never ever heard derogatory comments or such spoken by anyone in the Muslim community. It confuses me alot when I see people belonging to other religious such as Christianity and Judaism using such disrespectful terms and manners (nauzubillah) when they talk about our beloved Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Why is this so? Why are Muslim kids brought up with teachings to believe and hold all the Prophets in high regards when alot of people belonging to above faiths don’t? As Muslims, we don’t accept Hazrat Eesa alayhsalam as God’s son but we don’t ambush Christians using insulting terms for Jesus. We give him and Hazrat Maryam a very high status. Why is that not reciprocated?

Re: Respect for Prophets

because muslims see Abraham, Moses, Jesus (alyhum assalam) all as true prophets of Allah....
and by orders from Allah and His Prophet (saw) u have to respect them all without any distinction....

non-muslims, however, do not hold the similar view about our prophet (saw)....

jews dont believe Jesus (as) to be a true prophet of Allah hence they do not respect him, and same goes for Muhammad (saw)....
christians treat Muhammad (saw) similarly....

Re: Respect for Prophets

I guess because Prophet Muhammed (salallahhu alaihi wasallam) was the last of all Prophets, the other religious books don't have specific mention of him. In Islam, love and respect for Prophets has always been a big aspect of our fundamentals.

Re: Respect for Prophets

There is also probably resentment since Muslims believe their final prophet is loved more by God than all other prophets and humankind put together.

Re: Respect for Prophets

It is because our own book attests to other prophets and demands us to believe them as prophets. On the other hand the Christians and Jews for that matter do not take our holy prophet as their prophet and consider him as a fake prophet ( naoozo billah) .

Re: Respect for Prophets

well, both of the parties do mock the earlier prophets as well and it is found in the bible. So Christians mocking Prophet (Peace be upon him) is not something new their bible insults and mocks the Prophets (Peace be upon them) mentioned in the bible very informatively.

Re: Respect for Prophets

my friend you have raised a nonsensical point. If I say that my mom loves my brother more than my other siblings, does it mean that i should insult and disrespect my brother?

Re: Respect for Prophets

belief in the judeo-christian prophets preceding Muhammad[saw] is a part of our faith , christians and jews dont believe Muhammad [saw] was a prophet to begin with ....we dont respect "their prophets" they are our Prophets as well thats why we respect them
int this day and age even the judeo-christian prophets are being mocked and slandered in the worst possible way what can u expect from them ?

Re: Respect for Prophets

adding saw, ra, pbuh etc do not really connote respect. not adding these does not automatically connote lack of respect.

secondly, I disagree with your following statement:
*
we don't accept Hazrat Eesa alayhsalam as God's son but we don't ambush Christians using insulting terms for Jesus. We give him and Hazrat Maryam a very high status. Why is that not reciprocated?

*thousands of ourtemples were destroyed and desecrated when islam spread to India. Why would you expect a normal Hindu to respect a religion and prophet in whose name it was done?

You may say that such destruction was not what Allah or Quran wanted and that it was done by misguided people. Intellectuals can understand that argument but not the common man

Re: Respect for Prophets

This is a very powerful statement. Intellectuals are the leaders and role models of the common man . So true and honest intellectuals should be building bridges by making the common man understand the truth. Ball Thakray and the likes are prophets of hate and doom in the name of Hindu religion which is religion of Ahinsa and Ashti. No ?
I do not condone hate in the name of Islam , Allah and Rasool (SAW) either.

Re: Respect for Prophets

Not at all. Jews and Christians feel you have re-written their books, borrowed their prophets and insulted their religion by calling it lies. Then you love your one prophet more than all others plus humanity combined. You don't think that rubs them the wrong way?

Re: Respect for Prophets

Why do Jews dislike and deny Prophet Jesus (AS)?

Re: Respect for Prophets

Prove it!

Like Quran says, ask them to write one like of Quran, or even a chapter.

The very fact that prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was illiterate, he was not a reciter, not a poet, nor a writer, and the Holy Quran was revealed to him is living proof in itself. Its revelations spanned over 23 years, yet everything locks in place, not a verse is out of order. (Humans would make errors) Not only has it been preserved, discoveries of modern science are in agreement with a book that was written over 1400 years ago. Coincidence? I think NOT!

Jews and Christians too were given Holy books, but they reinvented them, themselves. Making changes to them to "suit" modern times, thereby changing and corrupting the divine word. Quran came to remind them of what they did. Quran makes clear mention of all the nations before, including the status of some of the most prominent figures in religious history. Bani Israeel, Moses (a.s.), Children of Isreal, birth of Jesus (a.s.), Zacharia (r.a.) and his plea for a child, Mary's struggle amongst the Jews of the time who were hell-bent on punishing Jesus (a.s.), but they were too naive to realize that HE WAS the mesiah, they were long waiting for. While some accepted, most rejected.

And then they question Quran? The FINAL testament? Pleaseee....

Re: Respect for Prophets

Same reason they deny and dislike Muhammad

Re: Respect for Prophets

They can deny/dislike/make false statements, all they want. It might be their "nature". Heck they didn't even accept one of the best Prophets, who was from amongst them. I'm not surprised they would dislike Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). But you know what, that's okay. Because we still love all the prophets including Jesus (a.s.) and Moses (a.s.)

:)

It still does not change the fact(s).

Re: Respect for Prophets

valid point cant argue much with that ......but see the conduct of those who destroyed your temples and unjustly killed ur people ...was that of a practising muslim ?....if not then why do u think it was religion alone that made them do all these things....its the job of the intellectuals to explain these things to the common people not use these isolated incidents to create even more hatred against other ethnicities and religions

Re: Respect for Prophets

Hm, I tried searching in my post again and again about mentioning Hindus disrespecting our Prophet but I found nothing.. maybe because I was NOT talking about them. Read my post again and look at who I am specifically talking about. Hindus do N0T even have Prophets (atleast I have not heard of them in my Islamic books) and I am pretty sure I mentioned only those who FOLLOW one. This is about one Prophet's following ummah respecting another one's.

Re: Respect for Prophets

Thank you for proving my point. You did it perfectly.

YES they question the Quran. They don't believe in it one iota.

Re: Respect for Prophets

That's okay Semi. Muslims still believe there were holy books revealed to Jesus (a.s.) and Moses (a.s.).

And yet they worship a 'man'. After all that teaching, preaching, and everything that comes with a monotheistic religion! :)

Could it get any better?

Re: Respect for Prophets

In Christian's view, Jesus was God reincarnate as human. Not a "man".
