Dope, I know you are smarter than comparing Patriot Act to Holocaust..Are'nt you? Here is the fallacy in your statement, Patriot Act was put in place through a political process; both houses voted on it. Since it was put in place politically, it can and will be taken down in time. However, jewish plight in germany was due to a dictator who wanted to wipe out a race. I hope you see the differnce now.

5Abi, this war has affected me emotionaly, morally, and will affect all of us financially at some point. Just on the very basic human level, I hate to see other humans suffering because some one had a hunch regarding WMDs. One other reason that has a profound impact on my life is the daily debates with my wife regarding Islam and Muslims. Although, I have been successfull in making her see the plight/position of the muslims, it still caused some tension in my household.
I will tell you how the actions of 9/11 terrorists have cost me.
- My citizenship was delayed at least 21/2 to 3 years....some will say so what, but it cost me one of the most important and emotional moments of my life. When my brother passed away in August 2004, I did not have the citizenship. After I got the news I left for LA to catch a flight to London and then from London to lahore. It cost me at least one day, because I had to get a Visa for UK on Pakistani passport. With the delay of that one day and the duration of the flights I could not be there for the funeral of my only brother. Do you have any idea what that pain is? If I had the passport I would have taken a direct flight from Houston to London and would have been there to give "kandaha" to my brother.
- It cost me a promotion...here are the words of my manager at that time "Kaleem, I could not convince the brass that such a prominent and critical position be given to a muslim"....this was October, 2001.
Lastly, how do I know that my citizenhip was delayed? I appeared for my citizenship test and interview in May 2001 and got my citizenship on August 22nd 2004. That is over three years...not to mention FBI talking to my wife, to my employer in addition to my house/cell phone being tapped (this is a hunch, but I am almost certain that it did happen). So Dopey, you see I was affected by the patriot act even before it became the act...but like I said, I have nothing to hide.

AS, do you think that if FBI really wanted to get all the information about you, they will need patriot act? What world do you live in? Wake up buddy.....these talk points are just that talk points. There is a long history of phone tapping and other survillance of individual without patriot act so I say chill out.....temporary act will be taken down in time.

Lussi, I only recently found out about this statement... I have moved on.... It was just not worth it. It is too much hassle and I believe in my ability too much to find a crutch... I look at it as "their" loss :)

Whether phone tapping was going on or not (before Patriotic Act) is not the main issue. Besides that phone tapping is just a tip of the iceberg when it comes to Patriotic Act. Just wait and see what they have in store for you.
I didn’t talk about just phone tapping when I asked you about the violation of privacy and freedom. My point is as a citizen of United States these kinds of things should bother you because such act goes against everything US stands for.
When will you say “enough is enough”? What if they put cameras in your bedroom? Would you still say “I have nothing to hide”? Just think about it a little longer before you reply.

I hope you were kidding when you said I compared the Patriot Act with the Holocaust, because I didn’t. If you look at the timeline of Nazification of Germany, you will notice that Hitler, like Bush, came to power democratically. He then promulgated–through the Reichstag–the “Enabling Act” in 1933 with an overwhelming vote of 441 vs 84. Kristallnacht happened in November, and a harbinger of what was to come later–the Holocaust.
If i were a screeching liberal, I would probably compare the The Patriot Act with the “Enabling Act,” and even that I am not doing. I think we both know there is no parallel between Hitler’s Germany and Bush’s America. Afterall, we are not sending muslims to concentration camps and marking their passports with "M"f or identification.
The only thing I am comparing here is your blind, turn-the-other-cheek naivete with that of an ordinary, unsuspecting Jewish person in Nazi Germany.

NPR isn't exactly 'neutral'.. it has a pro government agenda and will do everything to further that.. their choice of 'experts' and their answers fits in perfectly with the image they are trying to create.. like OBL is himself carrying a torch burning cars in French suburbs..
just shut it off and get your news from independent websites which aren't funded by large corporations or dubious CIA front funds and trusts.
