for 4 days there was talk of 9-11, war on terror blah blah but no mention of OBL or his whereabouts by any of the speakers :p
Bush mentioned that his dad the senior Bush worked for Reagan for 8 years, but there was no mention of Senior Bush's presidency and why wasnt he invited to make a speech endorsing his son?
The whole world knows that he has lost his credibility on other countries weapon programs. His advisors must have told him to shut up and not talk about so-called access of evil
A glaring ommission from Bush's speech was any mention of "Environment". It seems the issue of environment has fallen so below the Republican radar screens that they couldn't even care to talk about it, let alone defend their abysmal record on the issue.
“You may have noticed I have a few flaws, too. People sometimes have to correct my English. I knew I had a problem when Arnold Schwarzenegger started doing it.”

It was a wrong place to talk about environment. Not acknowledging the environmental issues is the fundamental belief of Republicans. He didn’t want to pi$$ off his people by talking about something that they don’t believe in.
I must say the RNC was fun, if nothing else Zell was entertaining. I am glad he is getting out of Democratic Party and joining the party where he belongs, and with his peer, Mr. President.
well Jeffords did it.. why can't he.. not that his words carry any weight.. but the Repubelicons did let him speak a lot.. so does that mean they think words of a Democrats or even ex-Democrats carry some weight?
Bilkul Sahi.. Miller sounded like a pathetic barking dog who has been kicked out of his house. His behaviour at Chrsi Mathews show was simply idiotic.I dont know who anyone can vote for such an Idiot.
Great observation. :k: I think Democrats are gonna pick on it.
^^
I don't think the DEMs are going to pick on OBL hiding in some cave as a weakness of GWB. The DEMs do NOT want the election to be a referendum on the War on Terror. The GOP does. That ought to be clear to anyone and everyone after the Convention.
The DEMs failed in their Convention to really place domestic policy and domestic issues at the forefront of the election. The DEM convention strategy was a blunder. It left W unchallenged in this arena and gave him the chance to jump out like he did last night to promote a second term domestic agenda without really having to defend the first term performance.
Kerry is now bruised and bloodied on the security and war on terror issues and is starting from behind on the domestic policy debate.
Zell Miller was like a pit bull which could have had a backlash if it was a Republican doing what he did. But he is a DEMOCRAT and is held in high esteem and quite representative of the DEMs and Independents most likely to vote for Bush. Not the liberal Califoprnia, Mass, Northeastern and NY DEMs and INDYs, but rather the white Southern moderate to conservative ones.
When you see a performance like Millers, you've really got to stop and ask yourself who is the audience he was really addressing and appealing to. I would wager that virtually 100% of those who view the attack as vicious, uncalled for and disrespectful had already made a firm decision to vote for Kerry or against Bush before Miller spoke. GW's re-election is dependent upon a Southern sweep or near sweep. No matter what the Republicans say or do, GW will not sweep the South because Southern black Democrats vote for him. Miller was just a piece of the big strategic puzzle the GOP is putting together. There is no question that Miller is more likely to attract more votes to GW from this important region than Ron Reagan Jr. will get from any important constituency for Kerry based upon his views of stem cell reasearch.

Which proves that the REPs are excellent at the art of maniuplation. If the DEMs were any good, the public perception would be the truth - this little side trip into Iraq has done nothing to make the US safer and only increased the proliferation of terrorists and destroyed any good will the US had from the world community following 9/11. Destroyed it by finishing his daddy's war and pursuing the neo cons agenda which had nothing to do with OBL, 9/11 or attacks against America. MORE than enough reason to kick him back to Crawford.
myvoice bhaijaan is correct. Miller is appealing to those who want America to carry a big stick all the time. Living in South for many years, I can bet he will be re-elected.
If you want to understand Miller and those like him in both parties, just consider them like the Jamat-e-Islami in Pakistan. Like the Mullah back home give fiery speeches claiming ‘Islam is in danger’ when newscasters on PTV stop covering their head with a pinned* dupatta *(which hardly covered their head in the first place), similarly, these bigots will put fear in the hearts of Americans that all threats are immanent & to emotionally black mail the voters. Another similarity is that they would do it in the name of patriotism and religion, while try to show their main stream face.

Your myvoice bhaijaan may not agree with you on what you just wrote :)

It may surprise you to learn that ahmadjee and I very often are in agreement as to some basic principle. Our analysis and opinion that derives from that shared starting point may differ. But, I enjoy my discussions with ahmadjee (mostly anyway) because we start from the same understanding.
He (she?? sorry...I've never even considered what sex ahmadjee is) characterizes the people Miller is appealing to differently than I would but we seem to be in agreement that the GOP used Miller quite effectively. That was the point of my post.
must be a guy, I haven't seen too many girls with a name like ahmed, and besides that all females are busy on cafe talking about Ash and Shah rukh khan next movie. They don't take too much interest on world Politics.
