AS usual Abdali, you have resorted to skirting the question. You have no clue do you? hahahah!!! Man..how do you expect someone to take you seriously when you keep talking out of your ass? LOL!
AS far why India should be on the UNSC as a permanent member I agree with everything written by the pulitzer winning Thomas Friendman. I am sure if that is not good enough for you, your Nobel prize in Economics can serve as a consolation.
Answer the question now…what does Soverign Rating have to do with FDI. If you don’t know, go back and delete your post or just say you don’t know. COme on man…save face..come on!!!
I am still waiting why not British get a boot from securitycouncil as British foreign policy is just an extesion of USA but France which provides a balancing act at UN for the rest of the world.. and why India should be given seat since we have China being really superpower in economic and military sence. Infact Britian should be strapped of security council seat and be replaced by Germany..
Degas, on aggregate terms, if you look at economics. US, Japan, CHina and INdia have largest economies. IN terms of people, CHina and India. In terms of representative democracies, all but China are just that.
Britain should be off an replace with Germany and France should be replaced with Japan.
And abdali...use your own advice, do a seach on google and explain yourself why Soverign Debt is correlated to FDI. Let me know if you nee some help. LOL!
Chaltahai Chalthahai Chalthahai… LOL… since you have no answer you go around off topic of FDI and sovereign rating blah blah..Basically if your soveregign rating is screwed you are screwed, and it had direct impact on your FDI the pros and cons are available just for you…
Now come back from your high flying horse and tell us what makes you think India qualifys for UNSC membership… The criteria listed above is hardly the reason India should be a UNSC member…
Why do you think Germany and Japan are not better candidates…
Abdali: AS usual you cut and paste without understanding what is written in the report. FDI and Soverign Debt has no correlation. Soverign rating has more to do with ability to pay for goods and services at a gov't level, while FDI is direct investment into particular industries both PSU's and Privates. LOL!
I already covered Germany and Japan while you were searching on Google. :)
This is the other aspect of India which Chaltahai likes to ignore..
Number of people, in India, who are below poverty line About 300 million (30 Cr.)
Number of people, in India, who are unemployed, approximately 300 million (30 Cr.)
POVERTY LINE definition , as per Government of India at Rs 10 per day, per person, approx. Rs 300 per month
The World Bank’s definition of the poverty line, for under developed countries, like India, is US$ 1 per day per person or US$365 per year. As per this definition, more than 75% of all Indians are, probably, below the poverty line!**

Chalthahai actually its lot more then that and goes deeper then you think !! could be one of the reason why India has half a billion bhookas coz must be experts like you running the show.... The reason why S&P and Moody downgraded Indian sovereign rating was due to the fact there were no plans for fiscal adjustments, weakening of economic growth rate, high external debt. Internal debt was huge like 60, 70 or even 80 percent of GDP. Was the reason why S&P, Moody downgraded Indian sovereign rating by one notch….. It has an overall impact on the economy including FDI but that is for different time different place.....
Now comming back to the topic at hand you cannot give us a single reason as to why India should be a UNSC member... The reasons given by the author are moronic at best...
1) Biggest democracy yeah right then China should be out...
2)Second largest muslim population yeah sure Gujarat included
3) Worlds largest hindu nation well I can find worlds largest muslim nation.
You can extend the list but I doubt India qualifys.
Abdali Chanda, if India is going down the tubes as you say. Why is FDI improving? Foreign reserves have never been stronger and HDI indicators are on an upwardly slope. So taking all these things into account, the lives of the 500 million bhookas as you call them are getting better but the lives of pakistanis getting worse. Go figure?
US was enjoying unprecendented growth and budget surpluses until last year, what happened? Should they be off the UNSC perm seat? China NPA’s in banking are almost 50% of GDP, should they be off it as well?
The simple point is that India, Like China represent 1/6th HUmanity. Unlike CHina, India has a representative democracy like the US, trade relations with most of the world and a growing economy. What is the reason for it to be left off again?
Ignoring the rest of your pearls of wisdom so basically you do not have a single valid reason to prove your point... Oh if you want to know more about the state of bhookas may be DHPs post above can help....
** The simple point is that India, Like China represent 1/6th HUmanity. **
Double ur population and it will be 1/3... will make your case even stronger....
** Unlike CHina, India has a representative democracy like the US..**
Sure with blood on its hands......
** trade relations with most of the world and a growing economy. What is the reason for it to be left off again?**
Argentina was a top economy at one time..... Lets talk about present, the poorest country on the planet.
Germany and Japan beat you hands down except in population.....
if I am not mistaken Security council seat is not based on whether country is rich or poor . Correct ? It is more of representative in the world. Biggest democracy in the world, second biggest population , healthy and strong growing economy, Good relationship with every major power in the world (including islamic countirs). These reasons are enough.
You can oppose the inclusion for any reason such as one of the toilets in Mumbai airport is broken.
Anyway it is collective decision from all countries of the world. It is a Good sign a major American journalist is supporting the move.
Degas the reason for that comment is the simple reason that some people cannot stand to hear such views. If it is India, then they get a rash. So being a good samaritan, I have the right scratcher for that itch.
When China was selected, it had it's fair share of poor but the driver was geopolitical stability and sheer size. Same is true with India.

CH,
You can exclude me from the list, I have my own views about UNSC membership. No matter how impartial my reasons you will draw your own coclusions given that I am a bad Paki..... I don't think India qulaifys based upon the reasons provided by the author. To be honest when I read the para I couldn't help laughing....
I believe as we speak the best candidates are Germany and Japan.. India!! future may be but definately not today.
wow as rvikz has joined his voice for a seat of security council for India we have to think seriously about it.. demand for this seat is so strong that all guppies from Pakistan should have an urgent guppie meet and listen to this just demand.. further as the demand is tabled over a Pakistani site which to Chaltahai has termed a mouse economy and India a elephant economy it makes the demand even more interesting.. we hereby thank guppiews from India to enlighten us with the rocket speed economy (which reminds to me that India will send some person to moon as it has so much excess money after all its problems have been solved) of India where social justice prevail. They dig out articles day after day that shows how magnificient place India is and also how downtrodden country Pakistan is! Pakistan must not be having footpaths as no one in Pakistan sleeps on them... we r so much impressed by Indian welfare state that if we didnt had that iron curtain we would had flocked towards Indian border for better life.. we have further learned that France is a country that is no good.. it stood against war against Iraq.. along with Germany.. France should be stripped off seat at security council and Germany should never be considered as it also have mischiveous designs for not going to war with Iraq.. and Japan has not enough population to match India so what its entire population is skilled and contribute to its economy..
What a funny article. Americans sometiems can be really funny. They are angry at France becuase it's opposing them on Iraq. All Americans really want is a country that agrees with them on the security council. Be it India or Tazmania. It doesn't really matter to them as long as the US can get their way in the UN. It's hilarious how people from third world countries like Pakistan and India get so excited when some Americans stroke their fragile ego.
"Ohh, look India is such a wonderful country. They even agree with us on Iraq! Lets shower them with praises."
I have a better idea. Why not just have Britian and US as the only two countries in the Security Council. That would solve all of the world's problems.
