Removing your.....

Tonsils…

Has anyone had this done?
Did it hurt?
How long did it take for you to recover?
Any weird side effects?
And why did you have this done…was your throat hurting, was it inflammed…did you do it just cause your doc told you too???

Thanks.

Re: Removing your.....

I had it done when I was 6. It kills. No other way to put it. Plus, all you eat is icecream and it's very difficult to swallow saliva.
But don't worry, lots of people do it, many kids too so if they can get through it, so can you :-)

Re: Removing your…

Go ahead and get it done. Like naqsa said, if kids can do it, so can you :lifey:

Re: Removing your.....

Thanks for replying!! I was starting to think that this wasn't as common as it seems to be.

And yea its pretty embarrassing...but I am petrified of surgeries and hospitals...just the smell of them makes me nauseas!! And I have zero pain threshold!! So yea that's a problem...and I'm guessing they dont put you to sleep cause how will you keep your mouth open...or is that a really stupid question to ask...

I guess the positive side to all of this is that you get to eat icecream all day :D

Re: Removing your.....

make sure to take pics and post them here! :D

For sure man!!! That's gonna be #1 on my list of things to do!!!

Re: Removing your.....

had it done, would neva eva go near surgeries again... the pain was like some one is stabbing you in the throat.

Re: Removing your.....

Astaghfar!! Actually maybe I don't need to have it done afterall....

Re: Removing your.....

My brother had it done some 6 months back, he is 28. He had to get it removed cause he was getting sick very often couldn't drink cold water or eat anything cold. He used to get sore throat very often. After getting it removed, it wasn't paining the 1st day. The doctor said it would hurt the 3rd and 4th day as that is the time it heals, the healing process is painful. And yes it was very painful during 3rd, 4th day and so on till it heals. He took 1 week off from office.

Re: Removing your.....

when is your surgery scheduled for malika?

i had my tonsils taken out when i was around 7 years old. i think my mom was more scared for me, than i was :p i got to lay on a bed and be rolled around from room to room :D

but seriously, the surgery itself doesn't hurt as they put you under. but it is quite difficult for a few days after the surgery. i remember when i came out, i couldn't swallow anything, not even my spit. so the nurses had like this little bag beside my bed where i would be able to spit out everytime i needed to.

the hurt in your throat isn't actually that bad, as far as a i remember. and you get to eat jello and lots of popsicles once you're up for it.

you're gonna be just fine! =)

Re: Removing your.....

Aww thanks hun!! It's not scheduled yet, and the thing is that i don't really need to get it done 100%...the doc said its a good precaution to take...cause i get throat infections easily...so i don't know if its worth all that pain! :S

haha reminds me of this family friends .. they had to get it removed for 2 of their sons and obviously sons (being less than 10 at the time) were scared so they told the kids we are taking you to the zoo..guess where they went after the zoo :cb:

Re: Removing your.....

Tonsil surgery is fun, you get to eat loadsa ice cream afterwards :D i had fun..

Malika

Have you ever tried gargling with alum powder? Its really quite effective for bacterial throat infections. Perhaps, you may be able to avoid surgery??

Re: Removing your.....

Carpool: that's pretty funny....and sad at the same time...those poor little boys prob. didn't know what hit'em :P (And i think i'll be a little too old for anyone to play that trick on me....but I am known to be gullibale :P)

Dubaiwali: (you changed your name) lol...anyway you must have like a very high pain threshold!! Impressive!! How old were you when you had it done?

Kikoy: Thanks for the tip, I haven't tried that actually, and if it can prevent me from going under the knife :S ...then I'll try anything lol!

Re: Removing your.....

I was 17 when I had it. Not too long ago. Well trust me I don't have a high threshold because even if I go to the saloon to get my eyebrows threaded or upperlip threaded I cry and my eyes well up with tears but I somehow went through with it and later ate ice cream!!!!!!!!
