Re: Pre-Meds and the Rishta Game
There are some residency programs unofficially labelled as “malignant” by residents, these programs are toxic work environments for residents..program directors and attending are not resident advocates and treat residents badly and berate and put them down often publicly. Residents are often over worked (used to work 100+ hrs/week for minimum hourly wage, now it’s 80 hrs/wk for crappy pay) and morale is low. Just not an enjoyable experience nor is it conducive to a learning environment. So basically malignant programs often have malignant program directors and/or chairmen who won’t think twice before they potentially ruin someone’s career. These used to be the norm for most programs in the 1970s-1990s but thankfully they are becoming relatively more rare as changes in work culture and environment and hour restrictions have been made over the past decade.
