Reminder: Junoon Documentary on PBS on July 17 2003

Excellent documentary :)

I think Salman deserves A LOT of credit of doing what he did, exposing the hypocrisies of the mullahcratic rule in NWFP. His walkthrough Peshawer and the interview with Gulzar Alam shows that the people of NWFP wish to be free of mindless bans on music.

Shifting to Lahore it was indeed sad to see posters being painted upon and the spirit of a tolerant city being challenged. We, Pakistanis are tolerant, moderate Muslims who like to keep our music and traditions alive.

Anyone catch the Mullah minster for minorities??? I mean isnt this the case of the wolf guarding the henhouse?

I definately came away with a new found respect for Salman and every other freedom loving Pakistani.

While on the buss a few people said that leader of MMA themselves listen to music but stop us us from listening. Hypocrites.

We have some similar mollahs roaming Gupshup as well, they say music is haraam, and urge others not to listen to it, but themselves listen to it... hypocrites....

BTW, Indus Music totally blows. God damn man, I can't belive we have MTV standard music channal in Pakistan. The small clip shown of it was enough to make me a believer. Good work. Clip of Junoon's No More was also shown.

Indus rocks!

RajputFury & Spock has sumed it well. I’m not generazling but the Mullahs in NWFP are narrow-minded people; and don’t prefer to listen peoples opinion. I can’t believe the Mullah Electricity called Pakistan to be the Pig of all 53 Muslim Countries. Doesn’t Islam forbid using absurd and abusive language, eh Mullah Jee? It shows how fraustrated he was when Salman Ahmed kept asking him about why Music is haram. Salman never got straight answer whereever he went. Regarding women, Mullah Electricity was spitful. Where does Quran says Women should stay at Home? I wonder what he says about the Women MPAs and MNAs.

I’ve never watched Indus Music Channel but a lil clip sure looked like one hell of a Music Channel. It was nice to see Girl VJ was in the Western Dress but kept herself Moderate.

There was a clip in the documentary when Musharraf visited Kohat, NWFP. I stand by his each word he said:-

If anyone wanna have beard, 100 blessings on you but don’t force me to have a beard 'cause I don’t want it

Solutions can be found, problems can be sorted out whether Men are with/without beard, Women with/without veil.

:hula: JUNOON ROCKS! Garaj Baras Sawan Ghar Aayo. :hula:

Go to the very beginning when they show people playing cricket on the beach with apartment buildings in the BG. Its Karachi.

I've never liked Junoon's music much but I'd like to have seen the documentary. Salman Ahmed's views are worth listening to even if the music isn't.

I really liked Mullah Bijli! :D

Spock can you take care of this guy, please?

yaar I don't like it, tuneless warbling has never really been my thing, but I think this Salman sounds like a cool guy.

No need to start a war over it :D

I totally forgot about it. :(

I hope they show it again.

I'm leaving you alone Xtreme for old times sake and also you had good things to say about Salman Ahmed. Consider yourself Xtremely lucky

Oh did anyone notice something pleasing to the eyes? Yes I'm talking about Mishal Hussain .Ah she looked so cute and pretty.Any background info about her :D like if she is married or still looking for a prince charming( me)

Excellent documentary - I missed the first 20 mins or so because I didn't know about it and when I changed to PBS - I saw salman talkin to some Mullah and the Mullah asked him to visit again, Salman said 'aap Mujhse Milenge ?? Main to GunehGar Hoon' Then the Mullah sang some song and told Salman to Sing that song in London. I think he sang it pretty well :) . It was nice to see Musharraf in the Junnon show..I think this Salman guy is really good and even though I am not big fan of his music, I think he and his band are good for Pakistan.

Interview with Christina Rocca was very good as well, Who was that hot interviewer btw ?

you are not really paying attention to my posts..Like I said her name is Mishal Hussain. Her family is from Pakistan.
She is only 8 years older than me which is perfect.

Mishal Husain anchors the 6pm and 7pm EST newscasts seen on BBC World. BBC World is available in over 254 million households worldwide and across the United States through cable and satellite on BBC America and public television stations. Husain is also a Washington correspondent for BBC News.

Husain’s family is from Pakistan but she was born in 1973 in England and grew up in the Middle East before going to boarding school at Cobham Hall in England at the age of 12. After leaving school in 1991, she had her first taste of journalism – interning at THE NEWS, one of Pakistan’s English-language daily papers. There she reached the dizzy heights of the “city pages” for Islamabad – covering events in the capital and even investigating whether a “silver” garnish on sweetmeats could cause lead poisoning. She also spent six months living in Russia – having studied Russian at school, she taught English in Moscow and had the chance to travel all over the former Soviet Union, including Uzbekistan and Georgia.

Husain studied law at Cambridge University, graduating in 1995, and then completed a Master’s in Law at the European University Institute in Florence. Her thesis dealt with human rights issues arising from the “temporary protection” status of Bosnian refugees in Europe. She retains a keen interest in international law and human rights.

Husain’s first job was at Bloomberg Television in London, where she spent two years and had the opportunity of on-camera work for the first time. She joined the BBC in 1998 as a producer at BBC World and then moved to the BBC’s specialist Economics and Business Unit. There she began reporting, covering anything from the markets to house prices to share options for Internet entrepreneurs.

She first tried her hand at anchoring in May 2000, including a stint in Singapore as the first anchor of the new ASIA BUSINESS REPORT on BBC World. She later returned to London to co-anchor BBC World’s flagship WORLD BUSINESS REPORT, with Patrick O’Connell. On the day the New York markets re-opened after September 11, 2001, Husain was live in Times Square, charting reaction to the terrorist attacks. A year later she would cover commemorations at the Pentagon for the one-year anniversary.

Husain moved to the main news on BBC World in November 2001 – her first day on the job coincided with the Queens plane crash in New York and that first week also saw the fall of Kabul. Since then she’s interviewed a host of high-profile figures, including the Deputy U.S. Defence Secretary Paul Wolfowitz, Deputy U.S. Secretary of State Richard Armitage, Pentagon adviser Richard Perle, Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame, Israel’s former Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu, Afghanistan’s foreign minister Abdullah Abdullah, and the NATO Secretary-General George Robertson.

I am an avid fan of the BBC World News. I always thought Mishal was Bengali though. She's very pretty and is an excellent news woman.

Mehnaz, I was about to say that. I also watch BBC America and Ms Hussain always gets my attention. I love her style of reading news and ofcourse her sexy skin tone complexion.

Never seen her before but she looks good. If she reads the news well that's another plus.

Yeah, she's very attractive. There are a few other Pakistani/South East Asian news women on the BBC but they aren't as pretty as her.

I didn't think she was Pakistani though. I thought perhaps she was mixed cause of the name 'Mishal'. I've never heard that name before.

It's not just that she's pretty, but she looks really friendly - and she does look different from the classical Pakistani types - if I can say that.

What makes her attractive is the fact that she looks different; short hair, brown skin, simple make-up. The woman's got it going on! You are right when you say she looks friendly. Who knows though ... looks can be deceiving. :)

well even if she's not friendly...those looks 'll go a long way to making up for that :D

I read somewhere she is engaged to some guy in D.C. :bummer:

I saw parts of the mullah and rock star documentary. The one thing that stuck in my midn is when Salman said most of these mullahs have such a certain look on their face, and seem to reply with such a programmed response. It doesnt take rocket science to figure that out, but it was a profound point, IMO.
