I know religion was always thought to bring the inner calm but these days people believe in their locks than prayers and the followers seems to be misinterpreting the thoughts and basics of it. Maybe they do not want to follow it all together, do not believe in it or just think it is way to hard to do it. Most of the time it is the prejudice that is shown when you talk about different religious affiliations, where as in science even if there are divisions they are mostly in a respectable way and in the end, if presented with a solid theory, they do agree and move on.
I think time is near or have arrived where we can confidently put our faith on science and reasonable thoughts and where religion is only useful for collecting masses for some futile speeches, where people will not ask whether you are a Jew, Christian or a Muslim rather educated and well read.
I think comparing the two is not a good idea as science is working to help people and all about free thinking on the other hand religion is there to control people and ask us not to ask pointed questions otherwise our imaan will be damaged. meaning limited thinking. Thats my opinion.
perfection is a human utopia
a chimere that people run after, because they are so ignorant, that they can not admit: "i am a humble human, my brain is too limited to understand the full complexity of universe and life, but my religions and science can give me some clues to think about"
Guys, please read my posts clearly. My arugment is not with Islam, science or Mohammad (PBUH) rather the followers of religion and science. Who is making the positive difference in the world right now?
Hmm, if Quran tells us to learn and to think upon on the creation and the funtion of stars, earth, animals etc. So I think it leads towards scientific discoveries.
Ok, Quran tells you and others this. What did the followers of Quran did about it after reading it? Did they apply it in the real world and try to change it in a positive way? Did any of the followers of book and religion did the same in today's world? Do not give me the 'run down of history' I already know that. I am talking about todays world, world might have changed but Quran did not, it is the same as it was during Muhammad (PBUH) time. They changed the world for good, can we say the same about today's Muslims?
Nature is God's manifestation of His creation. Science is man's perception of the natural world around him.
Islam is Allah's religion that was sent down upon Muhammad for eternity. The Creator sends down a code of living, he has allowed us ample room in which to research, learn, question and reason...he sets aside the hudood, beyond which going is forbidden.
The intelligent thing would be to trust the Creator on what he's created..and not some buffoon.
Religions come and and go, some last a few years others last thousands. Science has always been around since the dawn of man and always will be as Science accepts change in a universe that is constantly changing.
Before Muhammad and before Jesus there were those who felt just as strongly about their beliefs as Muslims and Christians do today. Essentionally it's just that the wheel is replaced every so often. And while hampsters don't kill in the name of their wheels, humans do. Now go do another lap to convince yourself that your wheel is the 'true' wheel. :)
Actually, yes it is and you saying otherwise does not change that fact. Almost all who put time and effort into believing in a faith believes exactly what you just stated above. Do you think that any religion could survive very long if members thought their faith was just another religion? The foundation and what keeps these major religions going is the idea that they are the 1 and only 'true' religion. Brand name building isn't just for selling soda-pops and shoes.
With that said I think religion plays a crucial part in many lives of people today, it gives those who are helpless hope, it allows those who would breakdown in the face of all the ugliness and injustice in the world to go on in the belief that those who suffer will be rewarded. It causes some people to be good when otherwise the wouldn't. But once you are able to get people to put aside all rational thought and get them to believe in the unbelievable (ie faith) it is very easy for those people to be manipulated. Religion and faith are very powerful controlling tools and they are exploited, be it in the U.S. or Muslim nations but I would argue that in present day they exploitation of Islam is far more dangerous and common than the exploitation of Christianity that goes on in the U.S. with that said the exploitation of Christianity in the U.S. could have even more devastating consequences if allowed to fully take hold, fortunately the split between government and religion makes it much more difficult to occur but needs to be kept in check and that battle must constantly be waged. The fact that the split between politics and Islam is blurred is what makes it easier to exploit on a more mass level. That said most Muslims can see who is trying to to use Islam in a perverted sense and push them aside but that still leaves a lot to fall through the cracks and they tend to be the most vocal bunch which in turn gives an overall false impression of what Islam is all about to non-muslims.
The Religion vs Science is an absolute non issue, when it comes to Islam and muslims. Its an issue in christain circles but we've never seen science as a problem in the Islamic world. That is the reason why you see many scientists and doctors and philosophers who also happen to be good scholars of Islam. Its a proof that Islam and science compliment each other. Many doctors reverted to Islam after they see the scientific miracles the Quran talks about.
Islam offers more than just mere hope to the hopeless; it mantain justice...something the conventional world fails to keep up. In the "fittest shall survive" world many get run over and get to suffer because they couldn't keep up. Being slow is not a crime, hence they shouldn't suffer cause of it...but this still do neverthless. This world is far from being perfect, for it to be The Reality...it should have been perfect but its not. Hence some other world must exist which is perfect, where justice is served.
Science has given us a lot, but its Islam that teaches us how to keep the evils, that are produced as a result of science, on a minimum. The world tends to disregard and ignore the evils that are created in the society due to the so called 'democracy', capitalism and unchecked scientific research. Capitalism for example, increases financial class difference which in turn leads to the city divided into ghettos and posh areas...and then we see crimes emerging, which is a hallmark of most of the big cities in the world today.
