Gosh that is so true!

As a stupid person I didn't know what I needed to do, when I found out through religion and still didn't do what I needed to do for sure that means I am stupider than I was before.

I think some of us could be a bit too defensive here. Look if religion makes stupid people more stupid then there is no reason why it can't make intelligent, wise people more intelligent and wise.

Religion is a tool ... A tool in the hands of a novice is lethal where as in the hands of an expert is beauty.

To certain extent I agree with the thread title. Foolish people will make their understanding of religion a thing which is to be fanatical over. Fanaticism is dangerous because one will end up devoting unquestioning obedience to the interpretations of single individuals. Likewise wiser religious individuals will suffer the tasks to understand and be pragmatic, learn to embody the injunctions at each stage checking and balancing for truth and reflecting on their impacts on society.

sidenote how come jhooomi ji always makes controversial threads or comments like this and then disappears for days, he starts the thread and we have to discuss it…
although he said it in a more harsh,hurtful way but i believe in God not so much a fan of religion.

If you read your own signature you will arrive at what Boredman is saying. Although I deeply regret many have misunderstood it.

But I don't see how deeply philosophical can benefit us when it is completely and utterly out of context to the thread topic.

I was gonna reply to the OP but I thought I'd first read everyone's posts to see if he may have meant it in a different manner.

My first reaction was, as most of you have perceived, was that "religion makes people stupid". My quick second reaction was that the OP has a point and is largely correct. Islam deeply encourages education. Its teachings are for the open-minded, not the ignorant and blind.

For example, you have many, many Muslims around the world that think all Jews will go to Hell. Then you have many other Muslims who believe blowing themselves up is an easy ticket into Jannah. These are examples of the already-stupid (or uneducated) Muslims.

Psyah pretty much nailed what I wanted to say before I had the chance. Religion can also make open-minded and educated people more intelligent and wiser, above many other good qualities.

Peace ... now you mention it ... May be he meant "religion" as in "the religion forum" makes stupid people more stupid and this thread is just the bone that he has thrown to us in order to prove it. May be he knew that we would debate this topic until blue and he just had to throw the bone. I feel like a dog chasing a ball that after getting it back to the owner a few time gets struck with the sudden realisation that there probably is no purpose to what I am doing. I hope jhooom has not made us all stupid. LOL

A likely assumption, seeing as to how you speak as if you know him a bit better than us. If that's the case, if anything you and I both proved him wrong.
