Religion Forum

I’ve already spoken to the moderator of the forum on this topic, so dont tell me to contact the mod of the forum.

Rather I have a broad question on the rules:

**But specifically any posts containing defamation of, insults, ridicule or making a mockery of:

  • Allah (God)
  • Divine texts (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.)
  • His Prophets and Messengers, and their families (wives, children, grandchildren etc.)
  • His Books and Laws
  • The Companions or disciples of any of the Messengers
  • Any other religious practices, personalities, places, items etc which are not stated in the above points, and are deemed sensitive by other members or the moderators.

will not be tolerated. Showing any disrespect towards them is not acceptable under any circumstances.**

Insults, I can understand.

How about if you want to CRITICIZE one of the above? Is that tolerated anymore? (as long as its done maturely that is).

Re: Religion Forum

Does that apply to western religions only or is that a blanket statement for all religions?

Re: Religion Forum

I think its for all religions… She sounds

Re: Religion Forum

PCG you and I both know that nobody will be able to “criticize” in a mature manner. They’ll turn into insults or they will be veiled insults etc. So I dont think theres even a point to it.

Re: Religion Forum

No Mansoor614 she only mentions western religions. Well I will keep her post in mind.
Is she always a complainer?

Re: Religion Forum

Who said anything about western religions? I didn't.

The rule specifically says not to insult any of these things. I find that a good rule. But do the moderators know the difference between criticizing, evaluating history VERSUS insulting?

MQ: That's why we have moderators. They're supposed to guide the discussions and they are supposed to monitor to make sure no one is doing anything inflammatory. Religion is the hardest forum to manage. It takes a lOT of time.

There is a major difference between locking down a whole thread versus just taking out the inflammatory posts and sending out warnings to specific troublemakers. The moderators have a review folder in which they send the posts they feel should be removed - other moderators look at it, and if its deemed fine, its sent back into the thread.

Its much better than locking down whole threads or discouraging discussion on a WHOLE topic categorically.

Re: Religion Forum

No one has the right to criticize any of the persons/things you mentioned.

Re: Religion Forum

PCG: you can critisize ALLAH:swt:, Rasool:saw: and his companions Ridhwanullah ALiyehay Ajma’een, all other prophets Alyehimus Salaam, Quran all you want for you will be alone responsible to your own acts however please do expect to get yourself criticized from others then as others are responsible to ‘enjoin good and forbid evil’ on their part. And if you do not expect such even for your ownself then do not expect Allah to be happy on your criticism either. Fair enough?

Happy posting. :flower1:

Re: Religion Forum

AQ - I never pointed out which one of those listed entities I would like to criticize, so please dont put words in my mouth. That's quite unIslamic, but something most of us muslims have a bad habit of doing.

But I do agree with you - what a person says or thinks - they're accountable to Allah for it. NOt to GS administration...

Re: Religion Forum

which one are the one mentioned above?

Re: Religion Forum

PCG you really are a glutton for punishment. :D

Re: Religion Forum

so how will you do dawah to potential-converts who ask such questions? identifying what they see as flaws in logic, etc. Wouldn’t you like the chance to disprove their assertions?

Re: Religion Forum

AQ - it is irrelevant. I'm not here to talk about what I wish to criticize, but rather is "criticizing" or "questioning" the same as "insulting" according the religion mods and GS administration?

They need to make a final decision on the distinction, because they've been confused for a bit too long on it.

Re: Religion Forum

^ and you have been enlightened......

Re: Religion Forum

say some one doesn't agree with some percept of Islam - eg: polygamy.

pcg - will you consider it breaking the rules of the forum if I criticise that?

others - will you deem it an attack on your religion or Allah?

Re: Religion Forum

if you criticize the concept of polygamy - go right ahead. I never said that just because I believe in Islam that I ought to shove it down your throat too. Its very unmuslim to shove that down someone's throat which does not belong there in the first place.

Re: Religion Forum

This is a Muslim board (supposedly). So unless you are interested in converting or have genuine concerns/questions for a purpose other than to ridicule, you can take your insults and criticisms somewhere else.

Re: Religion Forum

ofcourse I am not intrerested in converting any of you into anything else. you can be whatever you like to be.

That’s just the point chanda

Re: Religion Forum

skhan, why do you assume that if someone is questioning some widely held belief about one of the above categories that its the same thing as ridicule?

There are a few things I find fishy when it comes to certain assertions made by the majority of muslims.

So, if I question those, I am now ridiculing Islam?

I dont think so.

Re: Religion Forum

No that is not ridicule. Then again “assertions made by the majority of muslims” is hardly the same as the list you had posted originally.
