Recommended Pakistani movie?

I was thinking of ATTEMPTING to watch a Pakistani movie this weekend. Never seen one before, thought I’d become patriotic and start now. Are there any recommended movies?

Re: Recommended Pakistani movie?

khuda ke liye-shaan, fawad khan, iman ali

khamosh pani-kiron kher

Re: Recommended Pakistani movie?

Mujhey Chand Chahiye (2000) Shaan, Atiqa Odho, Javed Sheikh
well-shot, although a very farcical and lame lollywood musical with a good score

Khoey Ho Tum Kahan (2001) Meera, some male actors??
a pretty low-brow murder mystery with equally awful dialogues and production values to boot, the climax is its saving grace where for once Meera stunned me for the right reasons :)

Re: Recommended Pakistani movie?

Totally depends on what kind of films you into:

Ramchand Pakistani - (message based film with drama, good acting) Maria Wasti, Noman Ejaz, Nandita Das, Rashid Farooqi, Zhalay Sarhadi, Shahood Alvi

Mohabbatan Sachiyan - (typical bolly-type film in punjabi language with loads of songs put in for extra measure).

Botal Gali - (telefilm style, movie about consequences of bootlegged alcohol, huge cast) Faisal Qureshi, Aijaz Aslam, Parveen Akbar, Adnan Jilani, Rashid Farooqi, Sonia Rehman, Raju Jamil & many more.

  • Khamosh Pani
  • Ramchand Pakistani
  • Jinnah
  • Khuda Ke Liye

there are some other good one supposedly that I've never been able to get my hands on - "Zargul" and "Blood of Hussain".

Re: Recommended Pakistani movie?

omg how could you guys forget the film that was such a rage ...

Yeh Dil Aap Ka Huwa (2003), Sana, Javed Sheikh

Really, really corny but for once you have a dust and scratches free print, swiss-alps-and-snow-just-like-bollywood song and dance sequences (!!!), and awesome SPAIN!!!!!

Re: Recommended Pakistani movie?

So I actually have seen a Pakistani movie before, I've watched the "classic" Maula Jatt which flew over my head as a 5 year old.

The titles Zargul and Blood of Hussain sound very interesting, I'll google them. I'll try getting a hold of Botal Gali (seems different), Mohabbatan Sachiyan, and Khamosh Pani. Hopefully they're online. Those should do for now, I'll work on watching the others later.

Let me know if there are other good movies!

Re: Recommended Pakistani movie?

^ u are welcome

i so want to sell you guys this movie (not literally), so here’s the climax
sequence from Khoey Ho Tum Kahan… Meera is stellar here lol!!

Re: Recommended Pakistani movie?

Pakistani version of tere naam, it's a classic
Khuda Ke Liye
Ramchand Pakistani
Aina

If you watch an indian movie, youve watched a pakistani movie. they are EXACTLY the same (except to the low mentality desi audiences of course). i don't know how someone differentiates between the two and acts like they are different breeds.

Re: Recommended Pakistani movie?

^ Interesting theory... but I don't think India will ever come out with their own Maula Jatt. The Punjabi movies are in a completely different league. I just watched Khamosh Pani, and that is a very different movie, I'm impressed.

anyone who doesn't watch Indian movies or not from india/pakistan honestly can't even tell the difference between the two. Both have guys wearing tight jeans and shaking their asses ever five minutes, both have super overacting lead characters, both have overly makeup'd women, both have no real story lines.

I am convinced it is more then a theory. just my opinion though.

NB, Bolly film 'Humraaz' lifted the storyline of this film and changed its ending.

Ajab Gul was inspired by Alfred Hitchcock's films when making KHTK.

Izzat. By far a pakistani movie with the most superior production quality i have ever seen. Dare I say, some of the actors aren’t fair skinned and there are no songs. It’s won several awards internationally, and the director is Norwegian of Pakistani decent.

Izzat is about stray and misguided young pakistanis in 80’s oslo’s gang culture.

I hate to say it but the movie is on youtube. Although I strongly recommend renting it from netflix like me or anywhere it CAN be available to you, just so the profit goes to the film maker.

Re: Recommended Pakistani movie?

^ This isn't exactly a Pakistani film. The director is half-pakistani and producer, cast and crew is Norwegian. Also this film's style is extremely similar to numerous Guy Ritchie films that I have seen...highly misleading example.

I know the director, and he is a a student of guy ritchie..which is a compliment when you actually recognize the style.

also, 80 percent of the actors are second gen or first gen pakistanis from norway. He wasn't a producer on this project, he was a director and editor. There is a big difference.
