Recommended Pakistani movie?

Re: Recommended Pakistani movie?

So what did you watch and what did you think?

The poster asked for good Paki movies and I can’t beleive the number of you who recommended Mohabta Sachiya –
ummm hilarious movie – nothing good about it though.

You guys remember the fight scene where the heroine gets in the middle and gets slapped around.. SHOCKING!!!
and then the villain and his pristine anglish – “oh may gaaaad” :rotfl:

I did not say that the director (Ulrik Imtiaz Rolfsen) is also the producer, I said the producer is Norwegian…now* there’s* a difference. A student imitating another director’s work is a sign of insecurity. Rather than copying his teacher/guru, the director would be better advised to explore his own style of film-making whilst using Ritchie’s work as inspiration not a template.

Meanwhile, Reema seems to be busy at work…she’s covering everything to the last detail and HSY is her witness:

LOL, I’m definitely going to watch that movie after reading this!

Re: Recommended Pakistani movie?

Mohabbatan Sachiyan was the crappiest movie I ever saw. Period.

Re: Recommended Pakistani movie?

there was that other movie... think it was called Tere Pyar Mein. you will have to turn your brain off. I watched it because I was in love with Zara Sheikh - an incredibly gorgeous lady.

should warn you - you'll have to turn your brain off and there is nothing new in it. but Zara Sheikh... damn.

Mohabbatan was such a schizophrenic movie -- one moment you have dupatta clad parveens who (try to) turn into uber-hot babes in the dance sequences...it was really bizarre, IMHO

the only good thing about the movie was the babe-in-dupatta slapping the villain when he doesn't care abt the fact that she's preggers with his kid lol

I think I may have seen clips of it... is this the one with Moammer Rana, Reema, and Nadeem too? I can't remember if the other girl's name was Veena Malik or Zara Sheikh. But there's a reeeally weird song with the other girl dressed in trashy clothes, getting Moammer Rana- who is Reema's husband- drunk and seducing him.

I misread what you were trying to say. Either way, its still a Pakistani film. I’m unsure what your super amazing criteria is for it to be a pakistani film: is it supposed to be based out of a production studio in lahore?

I think it’s an amazing achievement when your first major feature film is actually recognizably from the school of thought of your teacher…and wins major praise and awards for being such a low budget flick. I doubt you’ve seen the films of his that have come after. Each have morphed. I hope he does more english stuff later.

Bottom line though, the production quality is amazing given the tiny crew, the real people actors from the community in Oslo, and the gritty editing. Better then any indian/pakistani film i’ve seen. THAT is a mind boggling milestone.

lol no no...that's the Reema movie called Tujh Sa Kahan...bizarre again, with weird character names and plot situations though I admit the basic storyline was rather interesting

The criteria is for the film to have been made it in Pakistan (be it Lahore, Karachi/ Islamabad) with a Pakistani audience in mind. The film looks good though.

Lol. Mohabbatan Sachiyan is basicallly a rehash of any 80’s Bolly film that was just given the Punjabi treatment. The college scenes are so cringeworthy (they obviously don’t teach people English there). However, it is known as the first punjabi film in which the ‘heroine’ is an educated woman who can make her own decisions in life - a far cry from the lacha wearing, gandasa wielding and clinically obese Anjuman of the 80’s. :nuch:

I think for a Punjabi film it fares rather well, but if you put it next to any film considered average by today’s global audiences its rating would drop quite significantly. It doesn’t measure up in terms of its storyline, acting quality though its quite apparent the team put quite a bit of effort into its production and post-production.

It just shows these semi-literate country hicks just don’t get it – it’s that retrogressive mindset that is so visible in most Lahore made films. Get your movie industry out of the agro belt and get some ABCDs/privately-educated folks in and the results will be apparent in no time. I’m sorry if I sound condescending there but this is the plain truth.

^ :k:

Ofcourse IZZAT is a Pakistani Film silly. It’s a relief to assume your criteria isn’t the official one when defining these things.

Watch Chooriyan! I love that film! Obviously could've done without the fight sequence at the end...but overall, the songs and Saima's acting are really good. And Bahar Begum is awesome as an evil step mom.

It is Moammar Rana's first punjabi film, I think, so his he's overacting quite a bit but I still love the film!

Also, Moammar's first film, Dewane Tere Pyar ke, with Jia Ali was also okay-ish. The screenplay is by Anwar Maqsood and the songs are pretty good. Jia Ali sucks big time. But it does have the patriotic touch you are looking for right now. :)

Re: Recommended Pakistani movie?

from clothes to direction to cinematography everything is so detailed in pakistan ads. and its not far when we will see the same quality work in our movies.

here are few examples:

I haven't seen it, but I've been trying to find the drama/play version of it. Will look into the movie.
