Blackboards

In another thread if posted how bollywood films are becoming ever more useless and no longer are what they used to be.
Well here are some films that are contemporaries of bollywood classics suited to my personal generic tastes give em a try

Aah if any of you are war film fans or just like medieval history.

Maybe you've had enough of Mughal-e-Azam and want to see it's rival cousins from around the world then check these out.

Khan Asparuh: This is an eastern European film about Kahn Aspharu a legendary ruler of Bulgaria who took on the might of the Byzantine army in the period of AD 700 or so, the vibrant battle scenes in this film make use of 50,000 extras used for shock and awe effect and the film is rather long and comes in three parts but if you can get a copy it's worth it believe me on that one.

Alexander Nevski: This is Sergie Einstiens masterpiece about the Russian prince who withstood the might of the Teutonic order. Again this film features classic action set in the medieval period and could be seen as Russia's version of Mughal-e-Azam. It may be black and white but the films an oldie goldie!

Dacii: This film is another Eastern european classic, featuring stunning full coulour battles like Khan Asparuh but set in the Ancient Roman conquest of Dacia (modern Romania) a decent film to watch becuase it features plenty of action and swords and sandals!

The seven Samurai: This is Akira Kurosawas epic film set in medieval Japan. Ever seen Yul Bryner and the cowboy film, The magnificent seven. Well this is the filmthat inspired it. A japanese tale of true heroism and a film worth a decent watch becuase of it's groundbreaking cinematics and storyline.

Kagemusha: This is an even more adventurous film than the Seven Samurai and again it was directed by Kurosawa. The plot follows the epic sory of the Takeda tribe of Samurai led by the warrior Takeda Shingen..... its so good you have to watch this one becuase of the clever story line.

Ran: This is another one of Akira Kurosawas samurai epics and features some incredible battle scenes.

Now enough of these old war films i know some of you want some action so now for some modern escapism check out the films of new martial arts legends and old legends becuase no matter what this film genre is one all can enjoy.

Snake and Crane arts of Shaolin: This is a Jackie chan masterpiece from his early years so it's worth a watch purely for the comical touches as well as action.

Drunken Master: This is Jackie chans most famous work in China and follows the exploits of the hero Wong Fie Hong. But this is the young comical hero played by Jackie and this is another oldie goldie for you. There is a 1996 sequel called Drunken Master 2 and this is equally as awesome.

Way of the Dragon: Youv'e heard of enter the dragon? Well this is better it's the only self directed film in Bruce Lee's short but powerfull career and here he plays a Hero who takes on the Mafia in Italy and fights thier champion (played by Chuck Norris Americas karate champion) in the Colloseum in Rome. If that most awsome man-mano action isnt enough watch Bruce as he plays his unique double nunchaku fight with a whole Maffia gang and takes them out in an alleyway one by one. This is a must see film!

Ong Bak: This film features new martial arts hero Tony Jaa. It is definately worth a watch, becuase this guys as good as if not better than Mr Lee.

The Warior king: This is another Tony Jaa masterpiece and reminds me of that classic bollywood film Hathi Mera sathi with a martial arts twist. Watch out for when Tony takes on fighters from Thailand to Australia in a quest to get his pet back. Whatever you do don't steal this mans elephants!

I'll put up a list of other films for you to watch later

so watch this space.
