Re: Recomend your fav desi resturants in different cities
Okay, I have to agree...Sabri does have the most chichora staff seen in Illinois. They stare like they're eyeballs are about to fall of their face. And they do ask too many questions when you place an order to go...unnecessary questions.
I havent had any issues with customer service though at either place...Sabri or Khan BBQ. In fact, its been quite good so far. But maybe Ive just been lucky and gone in when they've been in a good mood?
Re: Recomend your fav desi resturants in different cities
I guess they do not do that when the whole family goes there. I always went there with my kids and wife. Never had any problem or issues. They were very patient when kids were giving them hard time deciding as to what to eat and drink.
Re: Recomend your fav desi resturants in different cities
You guys are lucky, we dont really have any decent or great desi restaurants here in Brooklyn. I've never really gone anywhere besides brooklyn or queens for desi food, but have been to Brick Lane Curry House in the city twice and the food is just amazing! Out of this world flavorful and spiciness that just cannot compare to any of the other bland and baasi type stuff served up in Brooklyn. The naans are soft and scrumptious-- the garlic naan is especially good, and the chicken vindaloo, saag, and chicken tikka are perfect!

Love their Halwa poori
Re: Recomend your fav desi resturants in different cities
Some good Chicago Devon restaurants:
Usmania Chinese - almost everything is great, just didn't like 'orange chicken' it was too sweet.
Bismillah Restaurant on devon/ridge- Very good kebab & boti rolls. Prices are reasonable!
Sabri Nehari- I like their Nehari!
Uddupi Palace - Go there if you want delicious Indian food. A little pricey though!
JK Kebab House- best chilli chicken!
Chopal - good behari boti and kheer!
Sadly, there is no desi restaurant that i can recommend in London... What a sorry state of affairs. I avoid going to these places now, they r all disappointments. If anyone can recommend one, i will b happy.
I am surprised to hear that
Re: Recomend your fav desi resturants in different cities
best in St.louis, mo - "hot 'n' sour" Indo-Chinese fusion, yummy desi style Chinese. Nice contemporary decor and reasonable pricing.
best in Philadelphia - "Kabobeesh" diner style, but excellent authentic Pakistani food, chicken seekh kababs are excellent, so are their homestyle sabzis. halwa puri breakfast on weekends is awesome. pricing is average.
Re: Recomend your fav desi resturants in different cities
In NJ:
NaanKing - Indo Chinese (upscale chinese food) - love their locations in Jersey City and South Jersey
The ones in Jackson heights and Edison are cheaper and less formal and don't have the extensive menu.
Great place to eat for valentines day or special occasion
Also another amazing resturant (a bit pricey) is Ming in Edison
For pure desi- I would agree Shahnawaz is really good and better than Shezan.
In North Jersey - If you want to eat Murgh Choolay or keemay walay naan - you can go to Khan Kabab but there is no where to sit.
I love the lassi as well :) And the chicken roast etc.....just a great spread of food there with so much variety. I think it's better than Shezaan.
yup agreed afro sheen better than shezan!
Re: Recomend your fav desi resturants in different cities
The Nanking of South Plainfield happens to have better food than the one in Jersey City, it just seems fresher there. Have you tried China Spice in JC, similar food to that of Nanking.
In NJ, on Easton Avenue in New Brunswick, Efe's Turkish food is amazing. Their grilled chicken is awesome as well as mixed grill, never had grilled chicken that was seasoned well and juicy like that. Also Sahara Grill on Easton Ave is great as well.
And last but not least the "GYRO" truck guy in Manhattan, I believe on corner of 6th Avenue & 52nd street (near the hilton)....the platters are soooo goood with white sauce/red sauce. The line at the truck is ridiculous though.
Re: Recomend your fav desi resturants in different cities
^ I love the gyro guy but the lines are ridiculous!
Re: Recomend your fav desi resturants in different cities
^ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh wejn i went to NY Manhattan there was this thela guy on the street...i had shawarma....uff it was good. i don't know if thats the one u guys talking about!
Re: Recomend your fav desi resturants in different cities
What do you mean by Thela? Actually manhatan has several Halal street vendors selling gyro/shawerma/gyros etc......there's also a guy on 34th st near 6th ave that sells really good chicken rolls.
Re: Recomend your fav desi resturants in different cities
lol^
i meant street....i heard from many ppl therir shawarma is super good. i think guy was black muslim...
This reminds me when the new Sabri opened I saw a roach crawling on one of the chairs. That was the last time I went to Sabri. You are right though that’s what should be done. But then again I have had two horrible experiences with retailers on Devon & I swore that I’ll report them to BBB but never did.
Who WOULDN’T know Junaid. Lol. So true. I don’t know about him being decent. Player is the word that comes in my mind. Some time back Sabri used to have some young guys as waiters. All students I guess. Most of them were actually not fobs & girls used to go crazy over the supposedly hot waiters. Girls would just go there to check out the waiters then Junaid stepped in the whole Sabri picture. Focus changed. Ahh man good old times. Reminds me of so many crazy things. The Sabri uncle is Butt Sahab as everyone calls him. He is nice but not involved in the business anymore.
So true about Sabri. Khan bbq’s service is not bad but I don’t like their food. If I have to pay what I pay at Khan I’d rather go to Usmania Chinese or Desi & have some authentic Pakistani food with good servings.
Oh & Also J K Kabab House has some desified but tasty Chicken Fried Rice.
Ghareeb Nawaz has good Gyro Parathas. But that is it. That place is filthy But very poplular among cabbies & Loyola students.
I'd recommend Shahira for any gupsters likely to visit Newcastle upon Tyne in the future. Food is good, not too pricey and for all Gajar Ka Halwa fans (raise your hands), you won't be disappointed.
Hav u ever been to Laal Qila in Manchester ? I havnt been there but i hav heard its v famous nd nice food there
In Brummiland>>Birmingham
A lot of Desi Resturants
i think Brumiland made 4 desi rest:D lol
*Lady pool Road
Faisal,Lahori,
*Alum Rock---Khyber Resturant
*Stretchford Road-----Peshawari keebab
*Broad Street----Jimmy Spices
I guess they do not do that when the whole family goes there. I always went there with my kids and wife. Never had any problem or issues. They were very patient when kids were giving them hard time deciding as to what to eat and drink.
Actually I have been there with family & twice two different waiters acted weird while taking the order. How sometimes people double talk just to get someone confused & annoyed. Things we do with our friends or siblings sometimes. Like oh what did u say Nehari? ohh Maghaz oh u mean this & that & blah blah. That's just disrespectful.
But if you are satisfied then go for it.
