So the govt is united in getting President General Pervez Musharraf re-elected by the present assemblies probably within September, in his uniform.
Confusions and speculations had been about:
Whether he’d get re-elected through these or next assemblies*; That is clear now, he’s getting it done through present setup.
*
Whether he’d get re-elected with or without his uniform; *That is also clear now, he’s getting it done with the uniform on.
*
Whether and how his being in uniform will effect the re-election in the light of a few PMLQ resignations, PPP-BB deal; That is also clear that the resignations haven’t caused serious damage and the deal is still concealed while re-election in uniform has been announced.
Whether or not he’ll want to/have to shed the uniform anytime soon at all, before his re-election, after his re-election, or after the general elections or whether he’ll hold onto it till further notice; This is still unclear. Now if he is planning to shed the uniform anytime after his re-election, does it make a difference if he sheds it now? Unless of course the plan is to keep holding on to it for an undefined period of time? Why else would re-election be necessary by these assembles with the uniform if there were any plans of shedding it anytime soon?
A black day indeed. Amazing really considering the people do not support him. A true leader does what is best for his people and his country. Not for his personal gain. This guy has every marking of a meglomaniac.
^ Problem is that he is convinced that his remaining in power is "best for his people and his country". Hence rest of this debate surrounding uniform and this assembly or the next assembly is a moot point, as seemingly people of the country and the constitution of the country (and those who wrote the constitution) don't know jack, so who cares. *Musharraf saDa sher ay, baaqi her pher ay! *This should be enough.

Well, if he thinks "Pakistan needs me" then what else do you think he will do?
ISLAMABAD, Sept 12: President Gen Pervez Musharraf is likely to address the nation next week. Sources said the president might say something in the speech about the ongoing dialogue with PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto.
The address is expected to follow the next hearing of the constitutional petition in the Supreme Court challenging his dual offices on or after September 17.
Gen Musharraf, the sources said, might announce some drastic steps with far-political consequences. He would also announce steps for his re-election by the current assemblies.
The president was said to be extremely disturbed by the judicial and political challenges emerging in the wake of the deportation of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s second exile.
Yep, Pakistan is in good hands… see economy is booming, CJ is supporting Busharraf, media is free, judiciary is free, everybody is minting money, they lived happily every after… oh wait, there was a blast in SSG canteen, ouch, need to come back from the lala land.
PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain said on Thursday that Sehba Musharraf would be a covering candidate for her husband President General Pervez Musharraf in the presidential election. He told a private television channel that the PML-Q was ready to consult other parties to remove their reservations on the presidential poll. Shujaat said he had no objections to the return to Pakistan of Kulsoom Nawaz, wife of former PM Nawaz Sharif. online
There is nothing clear yet. I can bet you that SC is going to block his election for 2 very obvious reasons.
no general can run for political office…
even if he runs for the office he has to resigned from army and wait for 2 years.
Thats the law. Mushrraf options are very limited, and only thing going for him is the support from Americans which is a liability for him in Pakistan, not an asset.
BTW, Bush is coming under sever criticism from pres in the US for supporting a military dictator, and Democratic led Congress is anything, but Pakistan friendly.
^ Problem is that he is convinced that his remaining in power is "best for his people and his country"
So was Saddam Hussian, Robert Muggabe, Hugo Chavez, Fedal Castro, and dime a dozen other dictators around the word. That why they say power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Mushrraf is a perfect example.
Is this the political front man of Musharraf? Seriously, if Musharraf leaves right NOW, these r the people who will be looking after the country. Can anyone point out how he is better than NS/BB?
And please spare the torment of “oh but people gave them all the votes”. Without manipulation, and blatant govt. backing, Q would not have formed the govt.
