no they are called jammu & kashmir residents not “kashmiris”, kashmiri is an ethnic group just like pahari is. if you are a punjabi, you wouldn’t like to be called sindhi would you? this is the same situation there. j&k is made up of all different ethnic groups, religions and viewpoints which vary based on what kind of experiences they’ve had good or bad

it’s not my army, it’s the indian army and in j&k there are all different branches of the armed forces stationed on the piece of land, the army for the most part is at the borders, it’s crpf officers that need to be reduced to a small amount so the j&k police can assume responsibilty, there was an article in dawn just recently about troops being reduced by a significant amount.

you and i don’t live in j&k and we don’t know what the people there have to deal with everyday.

practically looking at this issue,the debate will go on for years while j&k residents suffer

Nisha, Im talking about the state of KAshmir. Call them whatever you like. But the bottom line is that these people do not want to be Indian and were never given the choice they deserved.

Your Army is Indias Army. Unless your not Indian. I which case, its someone else’s Army. But whoever this Army belongs too, they shouldn’t be there. Most of the human rights violations that have occurred, and do occur, are at the hands of the Indian Army.

And we thank the Indian govt for small mercies of course. But the bottom line here is that India is occupying Kashmir. Regardless of how many soldiers are pulled out, that remains the issue. So long as the Kashmiris are demanding their freedom, they should be heard.

I dont have to live in Kahsmir to know what happen’s there. Read Human rights watch, read anything on the situation. India has turned these people into prisoners. This isnt a secret what goes on there. Its simply not shown to most Indians because most Indians dont want to know. And soon as someone does speak out about it, they are villified and accoused of sedition. Look at what happned to Arundhati Roy, who dared to speak on justice for Kashmiris…

And I doubt anything will happen in Kashmir, and the misery will continue. But its not because of Pakistan or because of Separatists. Its because of Indians refusal to acknowledge the rights of Kashmiris.
