I saw him doing a commercial on tv the other day and wondered how come he never appeared in more films or at least bigger films. For someone who was instrumental in making Goodfellas so absolutely BRILLIANT you would have thought he would have made more of a mark?
I never got round to seeing that. In fact I didn't even know he was in it. I think the guy has charisma. Maybe he needs to appear in a Tarantino movie and be resurrected Travolta style?
He played a very good role in Blow ... not his usual stuff. He went away from traditional roles and took a supporting role instead. You should definitely watch it.
Actually, I'm pretty sure I've heard that he will be starring in a few upcoming big flicks. What though, I have no clue.
His movie Narc came out not too long ago. It's a pretty good movie. Not for the average watcher though. Quite gritty and violent. But movies like Goodfellas are usually a work of once-in-life unless you're Sir Anthony Hopkins who never stops.
He's probably over the hill now anyway. Just makes you wonder how these guys end up losing their way while wax dummies like De Caprio are considered 'stars'?
Ok it just clicked. I saw that…it had John Cusack in it as well. The film was pretty bad but Liotta played the psycho cop. The bloke does psycho roles too convincingly
Who else agrees that if there was someone else besides Johnny Depp playing the character of George Jung in Blow, the movie would have gone down as a classic in the memory books.
Johnny does a good job indeed, but he seems a bit off character in the movie. Not enough to make it a smash hit like the other gangster mafia classics such as Casino, Goodfellas, Pulp Fiction etc.
I disagree Tekno cause this isn't really a ganster movie. It certainly wasn't as harsh as Scarface cause it was less violent and dealt more with his personal struggles and other elements of the druggie underworld (greed, betrayal, etc.) ... at least that's the way I saw it.
George was ultimately a softie which is what kept screwing him over. I think Johnny Depp did a fantastic job. I can never tire of watching this movie.
Johnny Depp did Donnie Brasco as well which was ok but he’s not really cut out for that type of role. Anyway, my point is despite the fact that Liotta has a lot of screen presence he’s not really been in many big films. Sometimes it’s just a case of not getting the big roles. Where was Samuel L. Jackson before Pulp Fiction?
p.s. funguy if I was going to watch Indian movies forget Ash or Madhuri…it’s that Bipasha chick who’s happening these days

*As Mehnaz said, it was never meant to be a gangster mafia classic bhaijan. A great movie, regardless. People, That Is All.*
P.S: We all know Joe Pesci was the real star of "GoodFellas" :D .
