How many of you use this website when planning ur next semester’s course?
Is the professor a factor at all in ur decision making?
For those of you who use it, do you think it’s reliable?

Re: Rate My Professor
If you have the option of choosing your course sections etc., then I definitely think its a good resource to make use of.
Re: Rate My Professor
Most of the students posting on that site are whiny, lazy shmucks, who either compliment the professors who hand them stuff on a platter or are really good looking. I have never trusted the ratings there, and nor do I plan to do so in the future.
Re: Rate My Professor
^ I beg to differ. New fresh outta Ph. D professors make classes definitely more interesting with simple easy to digest lectures. They are also more approachable as compared to buddhay khoosat deans and dept heads who are also teaching the same courses just because they have to and not because they want to.
We used to have this eastern european microprocessors professor who was a total dick and constantly failed in class student evaluations.. until he either left or got kicked out.
Then there was this a-hole who showed up to class drunk at 8 am and started teaching Fortran instead of Java.
There really are bad apples out there that need to be sorted out.
Sincerely,
Captain Lota
Re: Rate My Professor
I've used it for the past 3 years, and yea it is good. Ofcourse i'm skeptical a bit when looking at the ratings, but the comments also help a lot. overall the ratings are true to life, that is, the horrible prof does get the bad rating.
Re: Rate My Professor
I regularly use this website. I usually decide on the courses first and then look up the ratings for the available professors. I also ask friends and other classmates. I usually find it quite reliable keeping in mind the fact that some people just don't like to put in any effort and wish to receive magical grades in return.
Re: Rate My Professor
If it's one or two ppl complaining, it wouldn't affect me, but when there are 14 ratings and 13 are "bad" then u kinda get a feel that they're not all whiny shmucks. But then last fall (06) I had a professor whose ratings were "high", that she was sweet and nice and all that crap. but in reality i found her far from "nice" and "sweet" but rather annoying and unprofesional
Re: Rate My Professor
There is another that sort of Website ratemyteachers.co.uk. All Teachers hold the opinion that doctors, court judges and solicitors also deserve to be rated on such websites by patients and related clients. I have seen some really great teachers got horrific postings on the site. Moreover, the most negative comments were about the headteacher.
Re: Rate My Professor
Hey Sara thanks for the website...Just did some ratings myself...ad would definately look at the future professor's ratings:)
Re: Rate My Professor
I used it and it was always helpful.
Re: Rate My Professor
May be I'll keep promoting it as long as my ratings are good :)
Re: Rate My Professor
I use it often, and rate proffesors at the end of the semester. It is helpful in that students will give tips on how to study.
Re: Rate My Professor
But you are a sexy beast Umar bhai. So your good ratings are invalid :o .
Re: Rate My Professor
Used it since freshman year.. most of the time they are accurate but not always 100% the same! Some Info is better than none..
Re: Rate My Professor
i've used it many times.
Re: Rate My Professor
i live by it! its pretty good
Re: Rate My Professor
I use it..and if i like a prof's rating and the course timings suits me then i go for it..teachers make a lot of difference to mE!
Re: Rate My Professor
No it’s not. What if nobody else is offering to teach the course and you have a genuine interest in the subject matter? Losers on ratemyprofessor can say whatever the hell they want, I’ll enroll in the damn course.
