Re: Rape and Abortion
Depends... does the women find out she's pregnant before 40 days or before 120 days?
Besides which, if she's raped first thing she ought to do is take the morning-after pill.
Re: Rape and Abortion
so u r recommending abortion?
Re: Rape and Abortion
Morning after pill isn't abortion..
Re: Rape and Abortion
Abortion is right, and best solution in such an unfortunate situation.
Re: Rape and Abortion
Abortion. The morning pill, if that works.
Re: Rape and Abortion
Abortion
Re: Rape and Abortion
I don't think i cud ever have an abortion. But who knows, if that ever happened i duno maybe i wud. Depends on a lot of other stuff too.
Re: Rape and Abortion
u want islamic answer or the answer?
Re: Rape and Abortion
As far as I know, if you go to any hospital/clinic after being raped, they're legally obligated to offer you the morning after pill. If I were ever to be raped, I would definately take that pill.
If the morning after pill for whatever reason doesn't work and I end up pregnant, then I would have an abortion.
My reasons are the following:
1) I'm 24 right now. I'm not emotionally or financially ready to go through a pregnancy.
2) I'm not emotionally or financially ready to become a mother. Heck forget having children, I'm not planning on even getting married for at least a few more years!
3) I do understand that the rape is not the child's fault at all. BUT being aware of that fact in an intellectual level will not prevent the fact that for the rest of my life, every single time I look at that child, I will be reminded of the rape.
4) What do I tell the child about his/her father? Do I lie and beg everyone who knows the truth to keep "the secret"? Doesn't the child have a right to know who the biological father is? How will the child feel(even if he/she is grown) knowing that the ONLY reason I got pregnant with him is because I was raped? How will I convince the child that I truly love him/her even though I NEVER would've gotten pregnant if I wasn't raped? How will I deal with the situation if the child wants to meet/get to know his/her father(aka my rapist).
5) If I were to put myself through the pregnancy and then give the child up for adoption, what QUALITY of life will I be giving the child? Look at the statistics for children around the world who are given up at birth.....look at the foster care/adoption system in the US. Most of the kids grow up in group homes or get shuffled from foster home to foster home. Too many of them suffer physical/sexual abuse while in the "system". Realistically speaking, what are the odds that the child will actually be permanently be adopted by a happy/stable couple?
Considering the above points, and of couse, tons of other possible scenarios will can make life hellish for me, my family, and the potential child in the future, I believe it's in everyone's best interest to have an abortion in rape cases.
Re: Rape and Abortion
good reasoning…
Re: Rape and Abortion
Another thing to consider ... the father of such a child is (obviously) mentally unbalanced. A child of a rapist may have these tendencies toward mental instability. and how to explain to a fatherless child - well you were conceived through violence, your father raped me and I dont know who he is, what his backgound, what diseases (if any) run in his family...
There are many women who hide the fact of their rape due to social pressures - they feel that they were somehow at fault and they are ashamed of what happened to them and will be blamed themselves. These are the potential victims of this unfortunate type of pregnancy. They deserve nothing but empathy and sympathy and if they decide for abortion, only God/Allah should be their judge.
Re: Rape and Abortion
take the mornign pill!
Re: Rape and Abortion
I'd be interested to hear whether Islam would permit abortion in such a case.
