Yesterday for the first time, I went for workout during Ramadan. I normally run for 2.5-3.00 miles and I did run for 2.5 miles yesterday about an hour before Iftar and let me tell you that I didn’t feel it any different than my normal day’s workout. Only factor that can come into play is that yesterday was Sunday (a non-working day). Lets see how it goes today after 9-10 hours of work.
Share your experience and any precautions that you take during workout in Ramadan. Any good/bad effects on health?
Unfortunately every year my workout season ends when Ramadan starts. I seem to have no energy left by the time I get back from work and after iftar I'm so stuffed that I can't even breathe.
I take a long break during winter and start back in late winter/early spring.
I would recomend that if you have time, work out right before aftaar but do it based on your energy level. Maybe reducing it a bit in the beginning. Unfortunately I am in class at that time, though I am tempted to just go run during the lunch break.
that was the idea that when I reach home after workout there should be no more than 25-30 min in Iftar that will give enought time to take bath, change and prepare Iftari.
It doesn't change my workout routine except for the weekends. On weekdays, I work out at night, and on weekends I usually work out in the morning. I'll just have to go in the evenings during weekends.
actually...I am really considering putting in half hour just before Iftaar. If I feel thirsty then I know I am only half hour away from openig roza. Let me know if anyone has tried this. I think also...I will continue with my yoga classes. They are not too strenuous.
How do you replace the lost fluids especially if you are running?
If you chose to train at all it should be after iftar, maybe something like 2 hours after iftar.... never before....have a light iftar, train and then have a light postworkout snack
eh i can attest to that ... romanian deadlifts followed by clean and deads ... not a good idea .. even though it was right before iftar ...holy crap it hurts ..
My husband went to his kung fu class yesterday. The class itself started after iftar, but he had to break his fast on the way and couldn't eat a lot since he shouldn't before working out. He took a lot of water, a cereal bar, and a banana. He kept up with the work out fine, he said.
I try not to break my routine because a 30 day gap is hard... I guess for me Ramadan is about fasting while continuing your normal routine. I never really understood how people stayed up till sehri, sleep until iftar...
I go to the gym straight after work, work out from 4 to 5pm....normal routine, if i get tired I walk it off....that way I have enough time to get home prepare iftar or whatever we are having for iftari.
