Re: Ramadan timings?

What people were doing when there were no watches to look for time? i.e. 1400 years back.

Re: Ramadan timings?

sun , birds,insects,.............

Re: Ramadan timings?

Is the whole world included in this.

What about Alaska where there is no insects (mostly in hibernation), rarely birds get out of caves, and sun is up for six months on/off rotation.

Re: Ramadan timings?

there were no muslims in Alaska in past times.:D

Men

Re: Ramadan timings?

lol, you have no clue do you, its dawn to dusk we fast.

Re: Ramadan timings?

Are you trying to say that the religion I am trying to believe in, is not universal and was sent down for only one area? :D

Re: Ramadan timings?

I understand perfectly what I was asking, in alaska how do you differentiate between dusk and dawn.

Re: Ramadan timings?

You just calculate the timings with the clock and read salaat.

Re: Ramadan timings?

They had their measures, e.g. in Asar is offered after a person’s shadow becomes twice his own length etc. There are visual tests for the time of each prayer.

As for the question of how the prayer times were calculated at north pole 1400 years ago, given Muslims reached North Pole back then, that would have been a question of Ijtihad. This is another pillar in Islamic jurisprudence besides Quran and Sunnah.Tthe scholars come up with the solution, based on certain principles, to a new problem. I would worry about such things after becoming regular at prayers in areas not so close to the North Pole.

Re: Ramadan timings?

So there is a legal way to inject human influence in religion. Humans are humans, no human can be perfect so there is a chance of some wrong things being implemented by Ijtihad. I am not claiming it has happened but there is a chance.

BTW what shadow you are talking about if the day/night cycle is 6 months long. :)

Re: Ramadan timings?

It is not an influence but an answer to new challenges. It is not influence for the sake of influence (or comfort), as it is probably the way you want it to be. Sorry if the question is rude, but are you a Muslim by faith?

Re: Ramadan timings?

I am born in a muslim family, trying to become a muslim after removing the grey areas in the religion. BTW I find it offensive when people start asking religion. Because I don't see any value being added to the discussion at hand.

The reason what you and Hareem are giving is because there was no muslim in Alaska at that point thats why it doesnot matter.
my stand is it matters because Islam is universal religion, or is it possible that islam was given only for Arabs in the peninsula.

Or is it possible that the Arabs in the peninsula didn't even know there is a place in north where day/night cycle of 6 months.
