The holy month being just round the corner. What are uour pre preps and must haves for Ramadan? Sahar and aftaar menus. Do you plan ahead and prepare in the starting of.the month for relaxed times afterwards or just put effort day to day from scratch? I need ideas as well as motivation so peeps please share.
I need to make chicken rolls and chicken patties... and samosas. Before next week. :(
We're gonna stick to one day typical iftar, one day regular dinner.
Re: Ramadan Prep
Only thing we make well in advance are the samosas. Wrap them up and freeze. Fruit chaat, pakoray, gol guppay, dahi baray, patties are usually made the day of. And dahi baray are usually left over and can be served the following day/s as well. We make chutneys (imli, alu bukhara etc) and they'll last several days/weeks.
Re: Ramadan Prep
Traditionally, we make samosa and egg rolls and freeze them. Make pakoray the day of. This year I'm not even in the mood for fried food...my gala is already a bit* kharab*. One Ramadan, my throat went so dry that I actually lost my voice. No, wait, that happened for separate 3 Ramadans. I've learned my lesson.
Re: Ramadan Prep
@redvelvet wow gol gappay for.aftaar? Effort.
@Enchanting_Rose. Please share the recipe for egg rolls
Re: Ramadan Prep
Mirage, we get the shells from the store. Fill then up with chana chaat. So just use the chana chaat recipe you usually use. Then mix some yogurt until smooth...add water to thin it out. Pour thinned yogurt on gol guppay and drizzle imli ki chutney and any other meethi khatti chutney of ur choice.
Re: Ramadan Prep
Thats yummy. Ofcouse getting shells from a store makes.it much easier.
Re: Ramadan Prep
And I thought Ramadan is not about feast, but fast :(
Re: Ramadan Prep
@mirage: we buy the spring roll sheets from the store (from in the Asian frozen food section) then spoon some pre-made keema in a corner (sometimes we add cheese: cheddar and mozzarella work great) , roll em up and fry those babies up!
I don’t know how to add a pic, so here’s a link to the spring rolls:

Re: Ramadan Prep
Make samosas/spring rolls and freeze them. This seems to be the situation in nearly every pakistani household at Ramadan from what I've heard.
Re: Ramadan Prep
I already ate one small box of dates… so ready… ![]()
Re: Ramadan Prep
…miss the days when I could eat all the samosas pakoras but wouldn’t put on a single pound. ![]()
Re: Ramadan Prep
I am done with my ramdan's preparations i.e Order the chest freezer. Its begums job to fill it up :D
Re: Ramadan Prep
Order the chest freezer.
Aaye haaye, mera tou chest hee freeze ho gaya aap keep yeah baat parh ke. Ramadan aap pe kum, aap ke bank account pe zyada bhari guzren ge
Re: Ramadan Prep
deewari dukaan hai na so ziada bhari nahi guzra ![]()
idea is to spend more time on Ibadah than cooking etc. So begum is planning to freeze a lot of items. I’ll be freezing chapli kababs ![]()
Re: Ramadan Prep
No specials....khajoor+ salan roti/chawal + fruit.
Re: Ramadan Prep
Iftars are usually pretty epic in my household. It's just that it's so hot around here, the fast really takes a toll on you (more sawaab :D ) so when it comes down to iftaar, me and mum really try our best to have everyone at home have at least one dish they like.
A week in advance (so maybe some time this week) we make chapli kebabs, vegetable kebabs and freeze them. I also have a little book of recipes i experiment on all year long to see if they are good or not (taken from the internet, recipe books, friends etc, it basically turns into a treasure chest of the best recipes ever) and use them throughout Ramadan.
The average iftar would have sweet arabic dumplings, fruit chaat, chicken-mayo sandwiches, sausage rolls, pakore/samosa, spring rolls, pasta/french fries, dahi bare, mini pizza's etc, most of which we divide and send to the neighbors house (they are Syrians and like different foods). No one at home has salan-roti in ramadan except for shehri so it's not really an option for us.
I think all this may partially be why everyone looks forward to Ramadan all year long. lol
Re: Ramadan Prep
Im glad that d6c made the point i.had behind this thread. Ramadan prep is actually to save the time and.energy during the ramadan @tlk.
My.plan so far is just add one iftar item to the dinner plus fruit chat daily. More focus to be on healthy diet. One fried item is.sufficient to color up the dining table. I.might store up on ready made phulkiyan available coz thats quick.to make and dahi is somehow consumed that way.
