Ramadan / Iftar Preparation

Does anybody do any Ramadan preparations? Make stuff and freeZe it? Lots of people I know make tons
Of egg rolls, samosas, kababs, vadas
For dahi baras.

Could we all do preps together? Please post ideas, recipes for iftar. There are usually some great ideas on masala tv and Ary Zauq.

I feel like a lot of my time is spent on preparing Iftar instead of doing ibaadat. Our family always does elaborate iftars. I can’t make nearly as much as my mom did. But I do like to have at least 3 to 4 items. Usually this is the only substantial meal (consisting of fried food) of the day. We eat very little for suhr.

Re: Ramadan / Iftar Preparation

You can freeze dahi baray, uncooked koftay, marinate chicken and freeze in small serving sizes, make some hari chutni and freeze it in cubes (then all you have to do is take a cube out, put it in yogurt, add salt and let it defrost in yogurt. You can also defrost it in micro and add to the yogurt). You can boil chickpeas and freeze them in packs.
My husband prefers dinner at iftar time, so I only make elaborated iftar on weekends. We make fruit chaat every day.

Re: Ramadan / Iftar Preparation

We've dinner and iftaar at the same time. I'm going to freeze some rolls with veggies and some with chicken mixture for the Iftaar. I've to make some samosas as well. We're not big on oily things at home usually, but during Ramadan we like to have one special dish.
I'm thinking about freezing some pizza base as well. But I actually like to make the iftari because that way you get to spend some time fast.

For Sehri, its going to be good old omelet and toast or cereals for us sibilings and parathas/roti for my parents.

Re: Ramadan / Iftar Preparation

Frying takes really long too. If you freeze samosas, rolls etc, you can always bake some chicken bread etc n freeze.

Re: Ramadan / Iftar Preparation

Ramadan prep is NUTS in our house. We stock up as if we’re prepping for a hurricane or some other disaster. LOL

We’ll prep samosas and spring rolls, other finger foods, and freeze them. And marinade any meats, seals them in individually labeled plastic bags and freeze them as well.

We load up on meats, veggies, fruits, juices, stuff for pakoras (spinach, potatoes, besan, etc), LOADS of onions, spices and seasonings, a new bottle of Rooh Afzaa (as we pretty much drink it year round), black cumin seeds (for falooda), different sorts of “already prepped” appetizers, and that HUGE thing of oil.

And then STILL manage to go grocery shopping at least three times during the month.

Mom likes to make sure all the best plates, glasses, cutlery (ect) is available/ accessible “in case we invite friends over for iftar.”

Re: Ramadan / Iftar Preparation

well i will boil n freeze chick peas,red beans n white beans...kebabs,seekh kabas,koftas....
make ginger garlic paste....
will try to make n freeze onion/tomato paste for salans n pulao....

we will not eat pakoras samosas etc only fruits chaat or fruit salad other than dinner.....

Re: Ramadan / Iftar Preparation

This month is not supposed to be about food. I hope my sister does not cook any of the oily stuff, which I will not be able to resist. I am going to hate the late night/early morning eating.

Re: Ramadan / Iftar Preparation

To defrost chick peas, soak them in water. Once they are defrosted, I always heat them in microwave if making chaat.

Re: Ramadan / Iftar Preparation

^i do the same....n for red beans too

Re: Ramadan / Iftar Preparation

I never waste time preparing elaborate iftars, we eat simpe foods with something extra, fruits maybe something baked.. I prepare the chopped stuff for the masala and freeze it such as onions toms, ginger garlic etc, meats are marinated and frozen... We try to eat more fresh stuff to cleanse the pallets, also I don't do big Iftar events , we usually have to rush for taraveeh, no time for socialising , this month is for Allah. Every moment counts..

Re: Ramadan / Iftar Preparation

you chop and freeze onions and tomatoes?
