At lunch yesterday, my friend made a very interesting (and valid) point, we need to market Islam. Those of us who aren’t Mullah - but normal approachable people. I like the idea.
So I’m thinking of sending my neighbors a little gift for Ramadan.
I was thinking of filling small mason jars with date balls and confections.
I need help/suggestions with the message that goes along with it.
I send Ramadan platters to some of my neighbors…I put some dates, fruit, a few samosas, some chicken tikka cubes and channa chaat. I include a little note about ramadan fellowship and then my kids and I deliver. I drop them off to some of my favorite clients as well
I just typed out a little message explaining that during the blessed month of Ramadan, Iftar is the feast to break the fast and our family would like to share this with our neighbors and friends. I then list out the items on the tray. I typed it out on pretty printer paper and tied it to the celophane wrapped tray with a ribbon.
in case someone doesnt have neighbors for gifts, i am available on a frandly rental basis. i think this is a good idea, errbody likes gifts. especially edible ones.
we send iftaar platters to our neighbours but there is no note or fancy wrapping involved. i like the idea though. Platters consists of 6,7 iftaar items.
Besides iftaar, you can also send out sehri goodies if that is manageable.
also some people send ramazan stuff to neighbours and relatives before the start of the month, stuff like Rooh Afza bottles, juice cartoons, dates packets, packets of pheni etc.
I once received a platter from our neighbours which had a pack of dates, some fruit and so few little pamphlets about Ramadhan with a dua book. I really loved the book so much that I recite the duas everyday and later bought many copies of that to distribute among my friends and relatives. I especially loved the idea that it involved no lengthy prep or cooking etc.
I usually give some thing to the guy who run the gym on Christmas. He knows when its ramazan, I was thinking bring him some gift card, because I always tell him.. this months you not going to see me much.
But to you. That is the way.
Also one thing I kept thinking and never did, was bring those containers or color full nice food/fruit and have it in the lunch area… when ramzan ends.
when we were in university, we used to do the Iftar party as part of MSA (Muslim Student Association) & SA (Student association). the event was used to be chaired by university head, department dean or some other big personalities. Since the event was a collaboration between MSA and SA, the iftar become more of a dinner where people of different culture used to sit together eat and see muslim do their prayers.
Btw dont kill me for this but if you hv gora-party as yr neighbors and you send them open dates in yr custom packages, you may be inviting for a lawsuit in case they even hv a minor stomachache.
Or wut i’m trying to say is, send them in the company or manufacturer’s packet and on the top of it you can stick in a card and write yr msgs. Mocho gracias amigo.
