‘Rafina’ is Sabiha Sumar’s second feature film after the critically successful ‘Khamosh Pani’. I have mentioned this upcoming film before and now it is finally ready to release around September 2011.
The film is based on a novella of Shandana Minhas (author of ‘Tunnel Vision’) and has been in production for a long time. Read on:
WOW. Thats a great news. khamosh paani (silent waters) was fantastic, i totally LOVED it. therefore i am gonna be looking for this one since i am expecting another master piece by sabiha. inshallah it will be awesome.
I see what you mean. Khamosh Pani got no recognition in Pakistan whatsoever but won 7 awards at the Locarno International Film Festival (a big deal in European Cinema). Having said that, Gupshup has several threads on this film which is great
I think ‘Rafina’ is going to be more commercial in order to appeal to the Pakistani audience - hence why there’s a soundtrack and more well-known actors.
Cast includes Amna Ilyas (model and lead), Saba Hameed, Savera Nadeem, Farhan Ali Agha, Beo Zafar, Atta Yaqub and guest appearances from stars of Pakistani fashion industry including designers, models, stylists etc…
have to add that I was somewhat disappointed in the casting choice of the leading lady
Me too. It's an unusual casting choice especially b/c Amna Ilyas has no experience of acting. They needed someone more high profile such as Humaima Malik or Sanam Saeed...we'll just have to wait and see whether Ilyas does justice to the role.
I think they needed someone pretty or "model like" and this is certainly not traditionally pretty. The movie is abt an everyday girl making it big bt it has to have plausibility to it.
Whatever, I do not want to see the same old faces again and again. I'm glad they're casting someone different. And she looks proper as an "ordinary girl". What do you want? Some overly made-up big name model that has been casted in every other drama? Then you people complain about how it's always the same old people.

Hey I don't think anyone was saying that. We were just wondering why Sumar would choose someone who hasn't acted in anything (that I know of). Who knows maybe Amna Ilyas will be impressive in the role of Rafina...we'll just have to wait and see.
Are they going to release this in Pakistan? The people there are not going react well to it. I suppose they must not have had many actresses to choose from who would agree to a kissing scene hence Amna Ilyas with no acting experience.
