**Rafina by Sabiha Sumar**

Re: Rafina by Sabiha Sumar

Amna Illyas is perfect for the role of a dark and emaciated Rafina, who starts out as a not-so-confident newbie. When they started shooting rafina in 2012, amna was also a wanna-be model and like rafina has risen to the top. casting couldn't have been more spot on.

Re: Rafina by Sabiha Sumar

Looks good minus the kissing scene.

Re: Rafina by Sabiha Sumar

Don't like it wont watch it.

Re: Rafina by Sabiha Sumar

Film looks very urban and stylish. I think it is likely to be censored for Pakistani audiences.

Re: Rafina by Sabiha Sumar

By the way isn't that guy she is kissing who made a BBC documentary on Karachi?

Re: Rafina by Sabiha Sumar

^ yeah kuch yaad aa raha hai. the guy who met up with soap stars and models etc right? I recall him asking Sara Chaudhry if she'd ever smooch on screen.

Re: Rafina by Sabiha Sumar

I think it'll be good; not much of a filmi nature to it, looks more like a glamorized drama, rather than a real feature film, but .... slowly getting there....

Re: Rafina by Sabiha Sumar

yeah him

I checked on IMDB and he is the same guy Atta Yaqub.

Re: Rafina by Sabiha Sumar

there r actresses who have done it previously in foreign movies

Re: Rafina by Sabiha Sumar

Yeah I know it's not that big of a deal in Hollywood or Bollywood and Pakistani actresses have done it.

Re: Rafina by Sabiha Sumar

he asked sara chaudhry for kiss n ended up with kissing someone else. lets see which other model wud end up with a bikini shoot because he asked the same thing from humaima ;)

Re: Rafina by Sabiha Sumar

The movie has been renamed “Good Morning Karachi” and was recently shown at Goteborg Film Festival in Sweden where all three showings were sold out. Here is the official trailer for the movie: Good Morning Karachi trailer | Nofil Naqvi

Hope it gets released soon!

Re: Rafina by Sabiha Sumar

Hope this gets released in cinemas soon, its had a great response in several film festivals.

Re: Rafina by Sabiha Sumar

Apparently ‘Good Morning Karachi’ is releasing in cinemas today. There was no promotion at all.

Re: Rafina by Sabiha Sumar

Stupid movie makers they know nothing about promotions/publicity. Who is gonna see a movie that no one knows is releasing???

Ok fine, you don’t wanna make a profit, then be our guest, please do not make any money, koi baath nahi hai, looks like all these guys have money pouring out of every corner, that pulling a crowd to see their movie is not a priority at all.

Re: Rafina by Sabiha Sumar

This movie caters to foreign audiences, its appeal in Pakistan will be limited but it does manage to say a few things that will resonate with those who appreciate realistic cinema and not silly escapist bollywood fare. Amina Ilyas does well and the remaining cast gets zero scope with the exception of Beo Rana who manages to make an impression and cashes on a character that after the female lead is the only one with more than a few lines of dialogue. Savera Nadeem was the eyesore of the film with hideous hair and a bloated look.

Re: Rafina by Sabiha Sumar

This woman looks like a half breed. Maker of senseless downer films.

Re: Rafina by Sabiha Sumar

The film was shown on BBC recently and what a disappointment it turned out to be! After ‘Khamosh Paani’ I had high expectations of Sabiha Sumar but it seems she has lost it.

The film was more of a docu-drama than a feature film which explains its silent release and zero impact at the box office. There were so many weaknesses…

For example, it was highly unrealistic and ignorant to show residents of Faisal colony wearing skimpy clothing (whether worn indoors or not)and speaking in fluent English. Its just not true. Frankly, the English and dodgy accents killed the film’s vibe .

The editing was amateur and the shots of cheesy synchronised dancing were tragic (inspired by Slumdog no doubt). Sumar’s direction was poor with awkward silences and unnecessary scenes that dragged. The only saving grace was the acting of Beo Rana Zafar, Saba Hameed and Khalid Malik who made most with whatever 2D roles they were given. The huge cast & countless guest appearances did nothing for the film either.

Th Benazir assassination/terrorism subplot complicated a simple story about a girl with a dream. I have read Shandana Minhas’ novels which are full of humour, irony and clever observations of society - all of which were excluded from this film.
