Look all of us are born into a particular ethnicity, religion and sect etc. why do we get racist for others? Yesterday I remembered a phrase some of my Pashtun friends at university would say. If you see a snake and a person from DI Khan, kill the person as he would bite you at some stage. I didn’t understand this at that time, now I do, Pashtun versus seraiki. The same holds good amongst all ethnicities and religions. In various areas this takes the shape of racism against different castes. It’s Allahs command that we were born to a particular house hold, if he wished we could have been born 50 Kms to the east (from Lahore) in a Sikh Indian household. Look I do understand the need to feel proud of your culture and stuff but why go to the full length?

I heard same analogy...
Re: Racism
When you have zero accomplishments of your own to be proud of, you start making things up to feel better than others.
Re: Racism
disliking someone/something is natural but disliking someone to an extent to cause physical harm or harm in any other way is outright racism/caste-ism/regionalism/communal-ism.
i may dislike my all the way down to my physical self and it's ok as long as i do NOT harm my body/soul. everyone hates/dislikes at least something.
Re: Racism
^ I believe disliking someone due to his caste, religion, ethnicity or sect is racism. It may or may not include physical harm. Making jokes about a particular type of people and not giving people to eat/drink in your utensils based upon his social status is all forms of racism. This was the exact thing that the Sufis tried to correct but it's so ingrained in our mentality that its impossible to take it out. I believe we in indo Pak are the most racist people on earth.
Re: Racism
I have heard the same snake thing about Bengali and biharis. Plagiarism much ? ![]()

It also happens when someone is suffering from superiority complex of caste, culture, etc. But again your statement holds good as they say superiority complex is basically inferiority complex.
Re: Racism
Same is popular for Punjabi- Sindhi as well. These all ethnic cards that play vital role in politics revolve around this proposition of making people against each other. PPP used to get votes from Punjab (once Punjab was PPP’s gaRh), but when in Sindh and playing Sindh card they always portrayed Punjab as a villain. Latest statement by Bilawal is an example.

Its everywhere in the world. Arab / Persian, Arab / Turk conflicts are also based on these perceptions of superiority. Things got complicated in sub-continent because here people inherited enmities and rivalries from invaders in the name of culture as well as religion. Thousands people have been killed in sub-continent due to 1400 years old incident of Karbala, is biggest example how we inherit enmities.

thats racist. ![]()
but at least its not all hutu vs. tutsi yet. if anything things have gotten a lot better in india in the last 20-30 years compared to the fragmented cesspool the society had become.
Re: Racism

Because religion is also affected by culture of racism and resultant racism is the worst of all.

lame excuse. have you ever seen a muslim feeling proud to be a muslim?
interestingly, Racusm is followed by those who are far from practicing the religion.

how lame? enmity between Banu Hashim and Banu Ummaya taking lives of innocent people on a foreign land after 1400 years. who is responsible?
Re: Racism
Racism that Persians, Turks and Arabs is due to their past glories. What have we got to boast about (thousands of years slavery)? ![]()
Secondly those people consider themselves superior to others (like Arab vs Ajam), on the contrary we hate every one different to us within our country’s boundaries (to the town/street level). Its amazing to see how many different levels of racisms we have got.

How does it show the impact of the culture on Islam?
Re: Racism
One division leads to other. In United India, it was Muslim- Hindu division and after Independence, in Pakistan, first it was Bengali - Non-Bengali (where Punjabi used as scapegoat) then after Bangla-Desh Sindhi - Punjabi- Baloch- Pathan… Sky is the limit.
Re: Racism

It does not show Islam's culture. This is the point! Islam teaches equality but somehow our people have failed to realize that basic concept.
Re: Racism

The point is racism crept into religion due to rivalry of two tribes.
Besides this there was always a bifurcation of Arab- Non-Arab in Muslim world. When Muslim established in sub-continent they blamed Indian culture for bifurcation of Pathan, Syed, Mughal, etc, but in fact they carried these discrimination from their own lands.
