Racisim at Hindu Temple

A convert to Hinduism is not allowed to enter. What is Hinduisms rule for non Hindus or non Indians entering the temple?

Can I enter a temple as a Muslim?

US woman, a convert to Hinduism, denied entry

Soumyajit Pattnaik

Bhubaneswar, November 3, 2005

American national Pamela K. Fleig was ejected from the doorstep of the 11th century Lingaraj Temple a couple of days ago — in what she said was a plain case of “racism against whites”.

Pamela and her Indian husband, Anil Kumar Yadav from Varanasi, wanted to see the famous Shiva temple on their arrival in the city on Sunday. But the priests stopped them at the entrance as the lady “was a foreigner and a non-Hindu”. They pointed to a board outside the temple, which says no entry for non-Hindus.

The couple returned to the temple the next day, only more determined this time. When stopped again, Pamela tried to explain to the priests that she had converted to Hinduism after marriage and had the right to visit the temple. But, the priests would have none of it. Her husband was kicked and punched when he insisted that Pamela, as a Hindu, had the “fundamental right” to enter the temple.

Pamela told HT: “The only reason they did not let me in was my race. They dragged my husband to the police station and beat him up there too.”

She said, “The temple does not belong to the priests only. Every Hindu is free to worship and since I’m a Hindu, I should not have been prevented from entering the temple. Just because I’m a white, they stopped me.”

Pamela said she would complain to the American embassy in Delhi.

Pamela and Anil, after an online romance, tied the knot according to Hindu rituals in April. Pamela underwent shuddhikaran rituals through the Arya Samaj and embraced Hinduism.

An FIR has been lodged for wrongful restraint, outraging the modesty of a woman and criminal intimidation.

Temple administrator Ramakanta Mishra, however, denied the charge that the couple had been roughed up.

^ Excellent example of real face of Indian religious elite

Re: Racisim at Hindu Temple

The Akshardham Temple in Delhi was opened / inaugurated by HE Mr APJ Abdul Kalam, a Muslim. It was just yesterday.

But yes, Jehadis are not allowed !

Re: Racisim at Hindu Temple

Congrates, you got one more issue…So you are opening Makka for all?

Re: Racisim at Hindu Temple

I think it's not racism but an attempt to copy Muslims who do not allow them in Makkah.

In any case, who would wanna enter a place of Shirk anyway.

Re: Racisim at Hindu Temple

If its open to Birds, why it should be closed to human beings created only by Allah all mighty & merciful . Strange !

Re: Racisim at Hindu Temple

So, its muslims who do not allow ! Then why you were blaming God all the time for this ?

But, should you like to see racism, you must see how sunni policemen treat their Shia & Other non sunni sects brothers at different shrines in Macah ! One example is birth place of Imam Ali. Any answers ?

Re: Racisim at Hindu Temple

Almost all small temples are open to everybody. Some, not all, of the larger/ older temples do not allow non-hindus in; some allow them in, but not in the innermost sanctum.

One of the reasons is the very bad experience recieved at the hands of non-hindu warriors during the mughal and the british days.

These things change with time because they are social restrictions and not religious ones. For example, in many temples in the south, cameras were never allowed; now, many temples do allow cameras.

@ Anjjan
Dude, I am not gonna reply to an unrelated comment of yours, made to derail the topic to some other dimension..................... which is just simply a counter attacking stragtegy.

Re: Racisim at Hindu Temple

Fine, don’t let Jehadis in, but what about Hindu converts? Is conversion even allowed into Hinduism?

Re: Racisim at Hindu Temple

Just let me know which temple you want to visit !
I will arrange a visit for you.

Re: Racisim at Hindu Temple

^ Temples with thriving "Devdasi" culture !!!!!
Religious prostitution (Devdasis) is OKAY but you seem to be in trouble with Jihadis !!!!!!

WOW.............

@ Kehkeshan
There is much more happening and have been happening in Hindu temples, ever heard of Devdasi ?????

Re: Racisim at Hindu Temple

that is only fun part of the religen wine and women

Re: Racisim at Hindu Temple

Most Hindu temples in North America allow anyone to come in. Ours certainly does. I understand the famous Tirrpathy temple in the south does not allow non-Hindus to come in but that is their management policy. I do not know of any edict in Hinduism that forbids non-muslims from entering the temples.

Re: Racisim at Hindu Temple

I was in Khatmandu,Nepal at some time, and their Temples did not allow non-hindus.

The Management of the temple said that the non-hindus gigled, took photos & made fun of the statues/Murti's - but I still think non-hindus must be allowed in all temples, perhaps they should be signposted & non Hindus told to observe the rules within.

Re: Racisim at Hindu Temple

First I want to clear one thing for ignorant people that non-Muslims are allowed to enter in Mecca but they are not allowed to enter in Kaaba. I guess some idiots here don’t know the difference Mecca and Kaaba.
You mentioning of Mecca as a comparison is really pathetic. There is no association here.
Non-Muslims are not allowed to enter kaaba but in this case that lady wasn’t a non Hindu. She was hindu but White a person. So she was not allowed to enter because of her skin not due to her religion.
Racist bigot Hindus!

Re: Racisim at Hindu Temple

Just because one temple does something wrong, you call all the Hindus racists and bigots. Shows who really is a bigot. Look in the mirror and you will see one.

Re: Racisim at Hindu Temple

^^ Where did I say all Hindus in my above post. Shows how some people jump to conclusions.

Here you are!

Re: Racisim at Hindu Temple

What is the difference between Devdasis and the luring advertisement of 72 hooris in some religious textbooks?
