I am quite preplexed now a days , people (asians) indians / pakistanis keep on quoting different race related stories , acts of voilence etc . I would just with teh help of GS to gather information as to how raceist the following two countries are
1 UK
2 USA
rather which is more raceist . Please feel free to quote examples as a rough sketch will start to emerge about the truth.
PS Mr ahmadi and Xtreme I have been making allot of mockery of u all , but I hope u all are not as Juvinalie as me , and will contribute in a good way rather then having sarcaystic and rhetoric jokes.
oye meray moon pe joota lag gaya .... no one wants to talk about this or may be no one takes me seriously . or ppl have hit a balance between there integrity and there desires.....well what ever the case may be no one answered :ansoo wala icon:
Racist??? I have seen our own ppl being more racist than goras..they are racist to females and to the poor ppl commonly. Need more stories. At least when some european person does act unfriendly, u can return the honour and the person will realise that he/she was being rude, where as our in own ppl, backbiting, jealousy, fighting (also amoung) families is very common...maybe we should learn to clean our own homes before complaining what the others are doing.
Both are racist. UK definitely is institutionally racist. Never been to the US, so I'm just basing there level on racism from what I've read and heard.

Fraudiya, females are from a highly different race, ki sumjee tussi, the rights of the poor people are unfortunately ignored..wassey what's your defination of race ?
well, ppl r sexist in pk but about racism, well ppl r kinda racist here(uk) dont know bout america coz never been there, well iv never experienced racism as i live in an area where da majority is asians.
As no one has related any story I think it is my duty to relate one.
I was in the US for a very short period and that is befor 9/11 . Nothing bad happened but I do have a story about UK.
I was flying from Gatwick to Geneva(switzerland ) . The swiss governament has a policy that if u r livin in uk for more then 6 months u do not require a visa for swiss.. I hold a pakistani passport . At the time of check in I approached the counter the female had a pleasen smile to greet me after I gave her my passport the scenario quite changed . first of all she kept lookin , through various pages of my passport . Then she exclaimed . Excuse me u dont have a visa for switz.. so u cant go there . I explained the rule and she said well all u indians / pakistanis are not allowed with out a visa . At this point I got a littel pissed off and told her that I was a pakistani and not an indian , on this she said HUH! well whats the difference(making a expression of disgust) . I told her to call the immigration at the airport to sort the problem , she called them and told me to step out of the line , I stood there for 10 minutes and she said that she was rite and i need to get a visa . As I was getting really angry i started to look for some help at the airport . At that time she recieved another call and went hummm hummmm hummm . she closed the phone and called me back , WITHOUT any appology , with a loud voice she said well. This is the only country that leaves u to enter with out a visa , as she was handing me the boarding card I told her that it doesent mean that every one who has a green passport is a criminal .
she looked at me and said "probably" and turned her face with an indifferent attitude . I gave her a piece of my mind and then walked to the gate. But in fact she managed to destroy my whole vacation in switzerland .
It is a horrible feeling to be looked down upon because of ur color cast or religion .......
so ppl who say that uk is instituitionally raceist is quite true I think.......
yawn... mr pakora, these measures are taken because of precautions that the security personal at the airport has to take. Believe me, even if you won't like me saying this, but indian and pakistani people amoung with african have a bad name of smuggling drugs into europe. Europe is strick about their rules and regulations and I don't think that the lady had anything against u personally, maybe she was frustrated at somethings else and let it out on you, sorry to hear that this episode ruinded ur holiday, but I would have cared a damn, these things happen.

Dear saadia
If I wanted emotional councilling I would have contacted u , I think u missed the point of the thread and the story .
THE POINT IS.....
Firstly drugs have nothing to do with visa and immigration , secondly I was travelling out of the country not in . Thirdly she could have appolagised for the mistake she made, fourthly she should not have made thoes stingging comments that she did, If by some chance she had a bad day she is in custommer services(British Airways) and should have controlled her attitude rather then being so explicit.
So sadia next time when some one calls u a paki on the street just yawn and give a dammm.

Dear mr. pakora, I wasn't giving emotional councilling, I understand ur point but I was trying to show u the other side of the story.

Well when u enter another country, a visa is required, so that they know that the person is entering the country legally. In your case it was not required. Even if you are travelling out of the country, the country you departure had to insure that the person is leaving with complete documents, like visa, passport, in case of neglecting these aspects, who do u think will liable for that person. Yeah I agree her attitude was unfriendly, she could have dealt in a nicer manner, here you could have reported her to the BA authorities about her manner, like u said she is in the custommer service and she too has to abide certain rules.

The people here dont even know what 'paki' means, well even if someone calls me that, you are right, i would give a dammm, I don't think I need to waste my energy trying to console myself just cos people may feel the need to call me racist names. If it would bother me, then the other person has achieved what he wanted in first place.

punjabi kuri. I lived in Uk in an area where they were very few asians around, and faced no racism. I did run into some morons on high streets here and there but I have faced the same in US, Saudi Arabia and even Pakistan..soem sort of prejudism, whether based on race, ethnicity or social group.
You will find idiots everywhere, difference is some places theya re more open, some places they are less open..its not to say some places dont have more of this problem than others.
was she racist, or was she just rude and unprofessional? I run into a lot of rude and unprofessional ppl.
I ran into very rude and unprofessinal airline agents at Heathrow a few years back. One had a Pakistani background and the other Egyptian I believe. They gave me the hardest time...and this id for someone with british passport with a valid US student visa and all his records.
I did not get mad, did not give them a piece of my mind...when I was fed up, I just asked to see their supervisors and made sure that these guys get in trouble. I even got upgraded to first class somehow.
dont get mad, get even...when its worth it..otherwise why even bother.

hummm intresting thought .... giving a tuff time and being racist are two tottally different things . some definitions needed here.
A Raceist: is a person who dicriminates another human being because he thinks that the other is a product of an inferior race. These feelings can arrise because of the distinction he makes between himself and the other skin color, creed, cast ,etc. I dont deny the fact it is discrimination but due to a specific reason.
What happened to u at the airport was also discrimination , but that could have resulted due to many(keeping the situiation in mind) factors for example , security, asian-asian jealousy, some other factors.
but in case of middel east I second u completely I think the UAE and middel eastern states take the trophy in being the most Raceist . But this thread was about US and UK so i will leave it for now.
Still thanks for the info.
some times its discrimination or racism..many times it just because a lot of these people are general jackasses. I have recived pathetic service in almost every airport I have been to, but then I have received great service in the same airports.
My approach is to be assertive, be polite (or the minimum not be rude), and not let someone's attitude get to me. Asking someone's name or asking to speak to their supervisor helps in many cases.
I have also lived in areas with very few asians around, in fact most of my early friends were pretty much all non-desi. I don't think it's the colour which is the biggest factor, it's when an alien culture is suddenly thrust upon locals that paranoia sets in. A sudden influx of Afghan refugees has seen most of the media jumpy over here, and it started well before Sep 11th.
A lot of sikhs often got rid of their hair and turbans when they got taunted at school with classics such as "oi Gunga Din, what's the matter, you got a sore head?"
Anybody who was Jewish and LOOKED it (important rider) got mercilessly hammered with jokes about Auschwitz and penny-pinching. Women who wear the veil must get more nervous looks than if they were walking around in local wear.
On the other hand I've been to Bradford and often felt sorry for the whites in that area who look totally intimidated by the large and somewhat less cultured Pakistani community there. Compared to london which is much more cosmopolitan there is a totally different atmosphere.
