KARACHI: An attempt to conduct an underage marriage of a seven-year-old boy with a four-year-old girl has been foiled by police while the parents involved have been apprehended on early Friday here.
According to police, the incident was of its first kind here in Karachi as police raided a marriage ceremony in Nazimabad area and held father of young boy Ismail and girl’s uncle including local Nikkah reader Gul Hussain Kamal who were allegedly implicated into the crime.
Nikkah reader under police custody stated that he was unaware of the ages of boy and girl while father of boy stated that he wanted to bury old family rivalries through that marriage.
oh yeah the main course.. well it's not something new in Pakistan. it has been going on in rural areas from decades. Under the "tribal traditions" blanket, and no one points a finger on it since thery may face serious consequences for doing so.
They were "idiots", as they tried this in an area like Nazimabad.
what I find surprising is this statement
