Quran Khwani

Where I live there are TON of Muslims.

Some believe in the concept of reading Quran takay jo log guzar chukay hein unko savab pohcha sakein.

Some are violently opposed to that, they think its ridiculous.

Is it wrong to read/finish Quran for the benefit of those that have passed and pray for their maghfirat?

Re: Quran Khwani

I believe in it.

Re: Quran Khwani

^me too

Re: Quran Khwani

me three.

Everyone needs all the sawab they could get.

Re: Quran Khwani

I firmly believe in Esal a swaab , in any form or shape.

Re: Quran Khwani

Exactly man. I think the people who believe that we cannot send sawab to dead ones probably also do not believe in Sadqa-e-Jariyaa. If we stop believing in that, half of the public will stop donating at their local mosques and what not.

Re: Quran Khwani

I used to wonder about this but,

if you believe in God then it isn't too hard to understand that prayer can be accepted in any form, it is upto Allah to accept them..whether it's "wazeefahs" people believe in or quran khaanis...or a quick prayer in your heart. it's ur intentions that matter and most quran khanis are for the purpose of sawab and dua...so y not? No one person is the same and i am pretty sure if God created us, he understands that.

Re: Quran Khwani

Recently, we had a Quran Khwani in our home for my nani, nana, dada and my aunt that passed just a few weeks ago.

We invited over 55 people...90% showed up. A few of the people that didnt show up were my friends. When I asked if everything was alright - why they couldnt make it - I got a very surprising answer.

"We dont believe in praying for the dead and sending them sawab...that makes no sense Islamically. People take their gunah and sawab with them when they leave...its wrong to send them sawab...thats only a desi thing and its Bidat"

In my opinion...a few Muslims who get together, do zikr, read Quran and pray for their beloved...are doing nothing wrong. Religion doesnt have to be so complicated...it doesnt have even half as many STOP signs as we have invented.

If we go with the logic of those people, then why do we read Durood? Why do we read Salaam? Why do we pray period for people for better health or prosperity or offer dua for anyone's benefit?

I was just so hurt about this.

How the living may help the dead
from
The Lives of Man
Of: Imam *‘*Abdallah Ibn *’*Alawi al-Haddad Rady Allahu *'*Anhu
Translated by: Dr. Mostafa al-Badawi, Madina

Praying for the dead, asking forgiveness for them, and giving charity on their behalf are some of the things God causes the dead in their graves to benefit from and be protected by. There are many hadiths about this, and many fine and virtuous people have witnessed it in their dreams. Sa’d ibn 'Ubada, may God be pleased with him, once said to the Messenger of God, may peace and blessings be upon him: ‘My mother’s soul departed suddenly, and had she been able to speak she would have given alms. Would it bring benefit to her if I did it on her behalf?’ ‘Yes!’ he replied. So he dug a well (for people to take water from) and said: ‘This is on behalf of Sa’d’s mother.’

And another man said: ‘O Messenger of God! My parents have died; is there anything left with which I may be good to them?’ And he replied: ‘There are four things: praying and asking forgiveness for them, carrying out their promises, being good to their friends, and giving proper attention to those kinship bonds which could have only be attended to by them.’
And the Prophet said, may peace and blessings be upon him: ‘Were it not for the living the dead would have been doomed’; in other words, because of the prayers and requests for forgiveness and for mercy which they receive.
And he said, may blessings and peace be upon him: ‘My Nation is a nation covered with mercy. Its members enter their graves with sins like unto the mountains, and leave their graves having been forgiven because the living have asked forgiveness for the dead.’

It is related that the gifts of alms, prayers, and Qur’anic recitation sent by the living to the dead reach them carried by the angels on plates of light, and adorned with silk handkerchiefs, and they say to them: ‘This is a gift from so-and-so’, and in this way they find joy and delight.

A dead man was once seen in a dream and, upon being questioned about his state, said that he had been greeted by an angel who attempted to burn his face with a flame held in his hand. But one of the living said: ‘God have mercy on so-and-so!’ -and the flame went out.

One of the greatest things which one may offer to the dead is to recite Qur’an and send on the reward for it. This is of great benefit and baraka. The Muslims have agreed on this everywhere throughout the ages, the majority of scholars and virtuous people have recommended it, and there are hadiths to confirm this. Although, these hadiths have weak chains of transmission, there is a principle, as the hadith scholar al-Suyuti (may God show him His mercy) has said, that: ‘Weak hadiths may be acted upon when they indicate acts of goodness.’ And these are indeed acts of goodness.
All the Qur’an is blessed and beneficial, but the most beneficial thing to offer to the dead is Surat al-Ikhlas eleven times, and this has been seen in many blessed dreams. Each person should recite this noble sura the said number of times, either each night, each day, or more, or less, or even only on Thursday night, and offer this reward to his parents, teachers and all those who had rights over him.

He must not forget his dead ones when he prays, asks forgiveness, or gives alms, lest he in turn be forgotten after his death, for the one who remembers is remembered, and the one who forgets is forgotten. Benevolence goes ahead of you, and God allows not the reward of those who have done good to be wasted. (18:30)

Re: Quran Khwani

People have very little knowledge and unfortunately they follow wrong scholars.

I remember a hadees where prophet put a green branch on a grave and did dua saying (and I am paraphrasing) that person will be prevented from azaab-e-qabar till this branch is green. Point is, the person was already dead but a dua was able to change his qabar ka haal. Our dua's do the same thing.

Hazrat Ibrahim has a Dud in Quran "Our Lord! Forgive me and my parents, and (all) the believers on the Day when the reckoning will be established". It did not say future believers, that means all believers, even those who are dead.

Re: Quran Khwani

The reason why so many people are against Qur'an khani's is first of all, and MOST important is the the Prophet (may Allah's peace and blessings be upon him) and/or his Sahabah did not do this practice.

Think about it, the most perfect person in Islam did not do this for his daughters when they passed away nor did the Sahabah do this practice when the Prophet himself passed away.

Do as much dua'a as you can for those who have deceased but do it in the proper manner. Do it in the manner that you find in the sunnah of the Prophet. Yes, it may seem "what is the harm in doing so and so, we're getting swab from it." But this is considered a bid'ah or innovation. Something that the Prophet did not do himself yet we have created. If it was truly good, they would have been the first to do it

How can a bid'ah be a good one when the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Every bid’ah is a going astray and every going astray is in Hell-fire”.

The point is that the Qur'an was revealed to be acted upon and pondered, to be read as an act of worship and read a great deal, not to be given to the dead or to anyone else

Abd Allah ibnUmar said: "Every innovation is misguidance, even if the people see it as something good.

Again, I'll emphasize that making dua'a is necessary. The way dua'a is made is important. Do only what the Prophet has done. How can we expect to exceed his greatfulness?

Re: Quran Khwani

making dua'a is good. but the sawab of reading the Qur'an will not go to the dead person especially if there's a khatam for the deceased done. Heck, in khatams, no one reads the entire Qur'an themselves. A person reads a part of the Qur'an. That's disrespecting the Qur'an to be honest.

Re: Quran Khwani

as much as you are right, its also proven that we can transfer our naik amaal to other people (sometimes through unintentional acts like doing gheebat, and sometimes through intentional acts like doing Haj-e-Badal). Transfer of amaal is valid for both dead and livings. When you read Quran, you get sawab. All you are doing is that you are asking allah to transfer that sawab to those who are gone cause they cannot do it for themselves anymore.

Re: Quran Khwani

I understand what you are saying but if it were truly such a good practice, why didn't the Prophet do it himself?

How is a Qur'an Khani a Khatam when no one has read the entire Qur'an themselves? I think this is the real issue when it comes to whether or not this practice should be practiced.

Take any chapter book for example. If you give one chapter to one person, and another to another person what good or benefit is it going to give you? Nothing. And yet, the Qur'an is THE Divine Book from Allah and we should treat it with utmost respect, no? Why divide it into chapters and spread it around to read?

Re: Quran Khwani

I understand what you're saying Pataka...I do.

I just think that if we only do what is specifically written then a TON of things become forbidden for us to do. There is nothing wrong with praying or hoping your prayers or good deeds are somehow helping your loved ones in the afterlife. What else will help them? Reading Quran in not an innovation, praying is not innovation...praying for the dead is? How? You're saying that no one in the Prophet's (pbuh) time prayed for the deceased?

In khatams, you read a part of the Quran...its a joint effort to finish as many Qurans as possible. How is that Bidat or wrong? You are reading the word of Allah swt and praying for the deceased.

Re: Quran Khwani

How is it a bid'ah? Because the Prophet himself didn't read the Qur'an in that context himself.

You or I may think there is nothing wrong but who are we to say anything when the Prophet himself or Allah Himself has forbidden bid'ah?

And if there are a TON of things that become forbidden for us to do, then that's fine. We should go astray from these things because in the end it's all about heaven vs. hell. Even to be safe, we shouldn't do things that have doubts about them.

Re: Quran Khwani

Prophet did recite quran for others, there is a reference to it in one hadees where he mentioned that Sura-e-fateha is sura-e-shifa also and can heal sick people. That shows recitation of quran can be used to help others.

Khatam is just a goal in Quran Khawani. You can read just one surat or few ayat and send the sawab to any deceased.

Re: Quran Khwani

That's the case for a specific surah. Did the Prophet ever read an entire Qur'an and give the blessings to his deceased daughters? no.

Khair, I am not a scholar or 'alim so I think it's best for me to rest this debate.

Allahu 'Alim.
