Greetings and salutations to all of you visitors to the History Forum.

Thanks to suggestions from you I have decided to open up a Quiz thread and the main topic of this Quiz is the World Wars. I chose this particular topic becuase not so long ago there was a keen interest in the subject so I though it would be great to test your knowledge.

The first five questions are easy ones, the next five questions I will post tonight and they are much more difficuilt. :cb: However all Questions in the first section will be Multiple choice while the second lot will be open ended and require a detailed answer. :wink:

The first person who answers the most questions right gets to set the next quiz for everyone… and on top of that they will recieve a special title as History Quiz King/Queen.

I have made two blocks of Questions so that it gives everyone a chance to take part and I will work out your score as a percentage, you can choose to take part in either one or even both… the first set of five questions are a basic level quiz and the next set are advanced level questions. That way everyone has a fair chance of winning becuase if you enter for the basic one and get them all right then you still beat somebody on a advanced level who only got three out of five. Hope you can understand this confussing set up… sorry if i’ve lost you guys.

Okay if you want to take part in the basic level quiz just leave your name and answers to the questions that I post below. If you want to enter the advanced questions then you will have to wait till later… as for those that want to take on both feel free to do so but please do point out you wish to take both sets. :slight_smile:

Finally folks I hope I havent bored you with all that… heres the Questions.

1) World War 1 is known as (and is still referd to as) the Great War for what reason?

2) World War 1 was widely believed to be the first War in which there was extensive use of Mustard gas and other chemical agents… but who used this terrible weapons first?

c) The Americans

3) World Wars 1 and 2 were not the first time the World went to War…

4) World War 2 was notable for the massive use of Aircraft but which Nation developed the first Jet Plane?

b) Nazi Germany

c) Great Britian

d) Imperial Japan

5) Which of the following is not a World War Two battle?

a) El Alamien

b) Kohima

  3. Eh, depends on your definition. The Crimean war, for example, involved several nations too.
  4. I don't know. I'd guess Nazi Germany, because Heinkal is coming to mind.
  5. Somme, that was in ww1.

The French put it to use before anyone.

Ah tough call, depends on your definition of World War. There have been global conflicts in the past so personally, I’ll go with True.

Nazi Germany. The Luftwaffe successfully took the Heinkel He 178 to the air.

Somme.

On a side not, if you’re interested in reading up the conflicts of the Middle East, try and get your hands on The Great War For Civilization by Robert Fisk.

Well done everyone I think you all did very well :cheer:

I will leave the quiz open for a bit longer give people more time and what not…

You all did superbly and nobody got Zero which is excellent I replicated the quiz to some friends and out of 19 entries we had seven score Zero so GS residents on the whole have done excellently. Well doen everyone… :shoaby:

I will make a start on the next set of questions tommorow for the more advanced ones among you and I am sure most if not all of those who have posted so far will be able to give a good account of themselves in part two of this quiz as well… Thanks guys and you can all give yoursleves a pat on the back and a round of applause well done. :slight_smile:
