Question regarding fasting on 12th rabiu-awal

Can any one please tell me the significance of fasting on eid milad-un-nabee?
references will be appreciated.

Re: Question regarding fasting on 12th rabiu-awal

There is no significance for fasting on the 12th of rabi ul awwal. Prophet Muhammad(SAW) used to fast on Monday.

' The Prophet Muhammad (Peace and blessing be upon him) used to fast on Monday and he reasoned it by saying: "That is the day on which I was born and the day on which I received revelations". [Reported by Imam Muslim]

oopss

Re: Question regarding fasting on 12th rabiu-awal

There is no requirement of fasting on this day as far as the Quran is concerned... The Quran instructs you to "observe abstenance" during the "month of abstenance" (Shahri Ramadhaan). Fasting on 12th of Rabi' ul-awwal is a manmade ritual.

Re: Question regarding fasting on 12th rabiu-awal

there is still doubt whether 12 rabiulawal is the date or not....

Re: Question regarding fasting on 12th rabiu-awal

thank you for your answers....jazakuallah kheir!

Re: Question regarding fasting on 12th rabiu-awal

There is nothing about fasting regarding the Sunnah but if it falls on Monday then yes it's sunnah to fast on Mondays. And of course Thursdays

Re: Question regarding fasting on 12th rabiu-awal

Whose sunnah? You are saying that according to tradition our prophet fasted on his own alleged birthday if it fell on Thursday or Monday???

Re: Question regarding fasting on 12th rabiu-awal

The point I am making is that there is no "hukm" in the Quran to our exalted prophet (or to us) to fast on Mondays and Thursdays.

Besides, the 7 day week is a Jewish and Mandaean custom since Jews believed that God rested after Shabat Shalom and Mandaeans revered the 7 celestial orbits (sab'a samaawaat) and dedicated each day of a "week" to one of those celestial bodies... while according to the Quran, the universe was created in 6 stages (sittata aiyyaam)...

Re: Question regarding fasting on 12th rabiu-awal

But there is a hukm in Quran to follow the Prophet(SAW).

Jews fast on mondays...........

Re: Question regarding fasting on 12th rabiu-awal

Here is the complete hadith about fasting on monday and thursday.

**Volume 3, Page 128: Fasting Mondays and Thursdays **
Abu Hurairah reported that the most the Prophet would fast would be Monday and Thursday. He was asked about that and he said: "The actions are presented on every Monday and Thursday. Allah forgives every Muslim or every believer, except for those who are boycotting each other. He says [about them]: ‘Leave them.’ " This is related by Ahmad with a sahih chain. It is recorded in Sahih Muslim that the Prophet, when asked about fasting on Monday, said: “That is the day on which I was born and the day on which I received revelations.”

Re: Question regarding fasting on 12th rabiu-awal

That I agree with... but the exalted prophet did as he was instructed to do in the Quran. He did not add nor did he abrogate...

And if Jews fast on Mondays that does not mean we must...

Also, can you give me a verse from the Quran that would authenticate this alleged Hadith?

Re: Question regarding fasting on 12th rabiu-awal

I don't believe that Quran needs to authenticate hadith rather the Quran and ahadith need only be complimentary. So I cannot provide a verse from the Quran that will " authenticate " hadith. However Quran tells us to look at hadith...bcoz it is in the hadith that the Prophet tells us what to do.

Re: Question regarding fasting on 12th rabiu-awal

You sure? Since one of the criteria for Hadith to be "sahih" in traditional terms is that it conforms to the Quran...

The Hadith you quoted does not conform to the Quran, since Saum is instructed to be observed during Shahr-i Ramadhan.

Re: Question regarding fasting on 12th rabiu-awal

Are you a scholar bro? If yes then you need to go up to the Ulema and explain it to them.

Re: Question regarding fasting on 12th rabiu-awal

I'm no scholar... I am muslim, and only a student of the Quran (and have been so for the past 20 years). I do not need to go to the scholars since the answers are right in front of us. Clergy have always hijacked religion (be it any religion).

Re: Question regarding fasting on 12th rabiu-awal

How do you read salaat, if you don't believe in ahadith....like Quran don't elaborate the method of salaat?

Re: Question regarding fasting on 12th rabiu-awal

Salaat is to be ESTABLISHED, not performed... Salaat means to follow closely and an example is that of Musallee, the horse that is a runner's up to the Sabiq horse (winner of the race). Rituals are performed, SYSTEMS are ESTABLISHED.
