Question for the ladies

Assuming you already exercise on a regular basis, do you exercise during your periods?

Re: Question for the ladies

Yupp! Actually it really helps with the cramps and the mood swings I find!! :)

Re: Question for the ladies

^ Yeah! back when I used to wrok out regularly (against warnings of my mom and other aunties), the cramps and pain was a minimum (don't remember about the cravings or stuff though).

Even now, I'm exercising though not as regularly but still being active and walking...and i didn't have to take any pain medication this month.

Re: Question for the ladies

I've read that light exercise may prevent the cramps and physical discomfort that comes with your period. If you usually jog...then a lighter exercise during your period could be walking.

Sugary foods are said to aggravate period discomfort. And there are food recommendations that help (but can't remember what they are.....I think milk is one of them).

Re: Question for the ladies

It's just a matter of 5-7 days I wouldn't advise anyone to take risk. I have never done exercise during my periods ....just walking !

I was under Rukhsana Khan (aerobics instructor) and she told me to avoid tummy crunches .

Re: Question for the ladies

Exercise should be good. The more physically active i am generally, the lesser is the pain. And if i lie down at the start of it, i am gonna get badly sick for 2 days. If i walk it off, i am fine after comparatively mild pain for a while.

As long as it's not heavy exercise I'm okay...I wouldn't be able to jog or run, although I'll be fine at the time I know the pain will kick in after.

i have a right nightmare the first 2 days of my period, so i avoid those 2 days only, after that im back in the gym

no..walkin is fine but no exercise for 3-4 days i start working out on 4th or fifth day

not the first 3 days or so then I resume back to my jogging/walking. I don't do any stomach exercises however till I am done.

Re: Question for the ladies

ofcourse - this is not proven but my heart rate is usually higher during my periods and I feel like it keeps the bloat down and I tend to lose more weight during that week. (could be all the water)

Re: Question for the ladies

I try to miss the first 2 days of my periods and then exercise onwards. Its helped relieve stress and pain many times.

What she means is that it really helps hubby when she exercises during her mood swings times.

Re: Question for the ladies

yep, carry on

hmm i wouldnt....

When i first started my periods i used to exercise normall....carry life on normally and my mum used to tell me off so much but did i listen? no...

So then i tore my womb :( not really badly but to an extent that it really affects me now and when i am on i get so much pain.

You are bleeding and your body is healing so i wouldnt stress it out even more by vigorous exercise.

I do still go for walks and maybe very very light yoga after the 4th-5th day but nothing before then.

i usually use my period as an excuse to not exercise lol. if its light and no cramping then i exercise. but with many people saying it helps with cramps, i will keep this in mind :)

Re: Question for the ladies

How do you tear ur womb? Sounds painful :(

^^ Ouch!!!

Coming back to the topic, back when I joined a gym I saw this pregnant woman in PERFECT shape except her belly ofcourse (which was huge!). And she wasn't one of those genetically skinny women, you could tell. So anyway I saw her working out and she was doing some moderate exercises on the stability ball holding light weights in her hand... so I look at it this way... if pregnant women are allowed to exercise moderately or lightly then so are women going through their periods...

Re: Question for the ladies

I do exercise during my periods :)

if you do it will help ease mood swings.. imo :chai: ..
