Question for Pakistanis living abroad

Re: Question for Pakistanis living abroad

No offense intended here, truly....but I always thought it kind of silly to say that a Muslim cannot go where alcohol is served. That means, really, that Muslims cannot live in a western country because its served here kwim? It means you cannot visit a house that has a liquor cabinet or scotch bottle within its walls. Or a restaurant. It means also that you should not shop in grocery stores or delis which sell beer or alcohol (and the vast majority do). Or use gas stations that sell beer. As mentioned above, you cannot fly in a plane which serves it. Or ride the rush hour trains which have a "bar car". You cannot attend office parties or any western parties for that matter since in all my life, I've attended exactly only two alcohol-free parties.

I completely understand that it is forbidden to consume. Nothing wrong with that. And there is no where on the planet that one should be encouraged to consume when they are unwilling - well except for dorm houses in universities I guess. But really, its no big deal to anyone whether you consume or not. And it should be no big deal to any Muslim if someone else does consume.

As far as what I've read and understood from the Koran, it is simply forbidden to consume it. I havent read anywhere that its forbidden to be in the same vicinity as someone who does.
