Re: Question for Mr Lucman / Mubasher Lucman Corner (Merged)
Mubasher Lucman thanks for the reply, I do agree that you need a great divide for a great love story but, since Romeo and Juliet the love stories have become mello and less dramatic. Romeo and Juliet, Heer Ranjha were stories where every scene and event is dramtic dialogues are poetic. If you compare these stories with Titanic and DDLJ you'll notice that in both of these movies the tempo is very light. I mean what is memorable about Jack and Rose? Jack teaches her how to spit like a cowboy...Raj Malhotra finds a bra of Simran in a train. Simran keeps telling him all 3 hours to be serious Raj be serious. The reason these love stories are evergreen is because the climax is memorable from "I'll never let it go" to DDLJ ending in the train station. James Cameron and Yash Chopra exploited the good looks, chemistry of their lead actor/actress and concluded the movie with the great ending. James sunk the entire Titanic tough, thus making $1 Billion.
I have another question for you if you like answering, I'll greatly appreciate it. What adivce you would give to a person who wants to become a movie director? What education should he/she get? Hands on training etc....

^^ I doubt promotions on any specific channel count. The Ajab Gul movie's promos I understand weren't flooded on any of the satellite channels prior to its release.

Suhaib, I cant get everything in life one has to learn to compromise and settle down as well. I took ARY for specially Pakistan and not UK. I hate to break your heart but when we show the film in Uk its primarily going to be a secondry market for us and not primary. If any film has to do well overseas it must first do great business in its home territory only then it will be able to generate adequate business elsewhere. Pls do not give me the example of Taal or some other film, bollywood films ahve by now a regular distribution networks all over the world. Please also do not quote War of the Worlds or some otehr major Hollywood block buster....they have the budgets to do a world wide release and we dont..
Re: Question for Mr Lucman / Mubasher Lucman Corner (Merged)
Well first you must get a bachelors in Film making/direction from any university and then I would suggest if you can afford tehn join a busy director or a producer as an apprencite for one year or so this will give you hands on experience and introduce you to other key professionals in no time and at no cost on your side. Then you can take up from there onwards and cross the bridges as you come to them..
By the way business of Titanic was 1.9 billions…fyi

i all good movies i have noticed one thing, and that is the begining and the end (climax) have to be good and make an impact.
if you look at all the good films there begining made a big imapct
kuch kuch hota hai, srk buring his wife (what ever you call it in hinduism)
mujse shaadi karogi, salman growing up
veer zaara, srk in jail
khnh, introducing new york
ETC.
Re: Question for Mr Lucman / Mubasher Lucman Corner (Merged)
Exactly and most of them are narrated at some point of the story by someone. These days even the big directors are not making ground breaking love stories, may be because they are not sure who is at fault and who should be the antagonist (enemy). In DDLJ, Simran’s dad is villan I mean a guy who is conservative and follows the rule as compared to sloppy Raj Malhotra. That’s why just in the end Yash showed him as a bad guy but soon changed him at the train station. He knew that just because the old fella is old fashioned doesn’t mean he is at fault. In the modern love stories, circumstances are the reasons a boy/girl can’t meet and that’s why you might notice may movies with ridiculous circumstances.
Re: Question for Mr Lucman / Mubasher Lucman Corner (Merged)
Why can't they make love stories on how love actually does happen when it comes to desis...
You know - like seeing a pretty girl on Eid namaz, or networking thru friends, or meeting someone over the internet? Or like through student organizations, etc?
Why does it always have to be ... "oh I saw such a pretty girl at a cafe in Spain..."
Re: Question for Mr Lucman / Mubasher Lucman Corner (Merged)
well boys dont usally see girls at eid namaz and networking thru friends has been done a million times before, meeting over the net has been done in dramas is well.,
Re: Question for Mr Lucman / Mubasher Lucman Corner (Merged)
look, just because you go to masjid and student organization to check out guys, doesn’t mean everyone else does the same. Keep your fantasy to yourself.

Well this hostility is nothing compared to what I witness in my emails. If I was to display some of them then you probably would begin to wonder. Well I wonder atleast as I am not sure what have I done to deserve such hate mail. Anyway there are many stories and I feel each director has a particular niche and not veeryone is talented enough to narrate all kinds of stories with same fervour and passion.
I strongly feel that all of you should unite and get tohether and pool your resources to make a film. Its possible and just look at some British films in recent years they were made with little or no budget and made box office history. It would mean ideally to pool not only your resources but primarily your thoughts and opinions.
I will confess I am not getting very popular as it is evident from the mail that I get frequently. Maybe I have said things that have offended some of you but then I must tell you it must have been unintentional and not meant. All I have done is give my opinions or observations and shared them with you.

Well last night I got some very disturbing news from back home. Umer Shareef has suffered a massive heart attack. Please pray for his early and full recovery he is an asset of our country and a very special personal friend.

Mubasher brother, dont get upset (if at all) about guppies hate emails. I am sure they dont mean it and are caught up in a moment. I for one find your posts extremely informative as well as realiistic. You are the one who knows grould realities of Lollywood rather than us and your opinions have far more weight.
Re: Question for Mr Lucman / Mubasher Lucman Corner (Merged)
awww c'mon Mr Lucman...I didnt even know about you until all the hype started here. Please don't let the hatemail get to you. It was nice to hear your views and opinions.
