If a group of men from Jamaat pay you an unexpected visit, how do you approach them? I remember this topic being discussed a few years ago and most men find these Jamaat guys intrusive and pushy because they’re trying to get you to go on Jamaat/Gush. Do you let them into your house, and if not, why?
Re: Question for men with regards to Jamaat.
sigh dont get me started! But I guess if you dont have time then tell them politely, if you do then invite em in and explain how messed up some of their ways are
Re: Question for men with regards to Jamaat.
I find it hard and impolite to refuse them into the house. Ive let them in, listened to them and even walked with them to the mosque to offer prayers but have politely refused to go with them on tabligh missions and such. Other times, ive pretended not to be at home while they are knocking away at the door :D
Re: Question for men with regards to Jamaat.
How are their ways messed up? The fact that they try and influence you to join them? Isn't it compulsory for us to do Dawa? And even if we choose not to go, surely we can invite them in...but I guess once you do that, you've already committed yourself somewhat and it may be a difficult situation to get out of.
Re: Question for men with regards to Jamaat.
5abi, today the doorbell rang and as I was about to answer when my dad indicated that he wasn’t at home, so I had to tell these guys my dads not home and I really gave it to my dad after that.
I wasn’t very pleased.
Re: Question for men with regards to Jamaat.
I have not had any experience with Jamaat guys here in the US, probably because I meet them at the masjid. However, in Pakistan, every now and then a jamaat will come to our home. I don't remember them ever expecting to be admitted inside the house. They'd usually come after asar, and just stand outside the gate (3 or 4 of them) and we'll just talk briefly about state of ummah and other wonderful topics, I'll promise to bring them some jalebi for maghrib salah and they will leave with a huge grin on their faces. It was hardly ever unpleasant.
Re: Question for men with regards to Jamaat.
Number one, how many ppl do u see converted by jamatis? num two, most of the time they come to your house and they will start reading off of a book, as if we cant read? Then, they go from masjid to masjid doing dawah? Errrmmm a person that comes to the masjid is already a muslim, and a good muslim for that matter. They come to my house and tell my dad about how good it is to pray at the masjid, and alhumdullilah my dad prays like 6 times a day and most of the namaz at the masjid. They waste masjid's rescources for nothing. In the past four years that i have spent going to our masjid I have seen them accomplish absolutely nothing other than fights. They had a problem with our dawah programing class because even though it was seprated the teacher(who was an alim) could see us through a crack in the divider!
Dawah starts from ur family, to ur relatives to ur friends. Traveling to masjids isnt gonna do much. Knocking door to door (in a 80% desi subdivision) isnt gonna accomplish much. If they really wanna give dawah or us for that matter, than go out there, go talk in churches, go talk to non muslims, answer questions...have support groups for new converts. Seriously there is so much more to do than bother ur muslim brothers. I think thats enough for now.
Re: Question for men with regards to Jamaat.
Yeha no one likes Jehova's witnesses.
Re: Question for men with regards to Jamaat.
Faisal bhai, they're slightly more gung-ho over here.
The thing is over here people come from Pakistan and India, and the local Muslim community (which is quite large and well-established) welcomes them. But why do they spend so much money coming here, when people back home in India and Pakistan need them more than we do in terms of Islamic education. And they could do better things with all that money spent on travel.
TJ, thats interesting, but maybe they didnt know all that about your father. They cant all be bad though, Im sure theyre doing some good things too, atleast theyre spreading the religion.
Re: Question for men with regards to Jamaat.
I am sure they do, I am not saying they are bad ppl, I am sure their intentions are good its just their intentions alone arent doing much. But they are not spreading the religion though, talking to muslims about islam isnt spreading the religion, they need to be out there in the community and like you said why do they waste so much money on travelling?
Re: Question for men with regards to Jamaat.
I ma not sure if they are spreading religion...but they are definitely spreading stereotypes.
Re: Question for men with regards to Jamaat.
like jamat from our masjid goes to toronto or chicago every now n then, as if they dont have jamatis over there? And my brother has gone on one of em, so i know how much they accomplish on those trips. So really, why not do something useful with their eduction? The money they waste?
Re: Question for men with regards to Jamaat.
Regardless of whether you agree with their methods, I would give them the respect they deserve, they certainly care and do alot more for Islam than the rest of us. I don't know about TJ's experiences, but I have met SEVERAL americans who have converted just by their interaction by some of these tableegi jamaats.
Re: Question for men with regards to Jamaat.
Catty, the only times i have been annoyed with them was when they started knocking every week. I didnt mind going to the mosque to pray but i didnt like being reminded by them every week. Thats what when I started pretending not being at home. After knocking a few times and not being answered, they stopped coming every week :D
Re: Question for men with regards to Jamaat.
Tikhi Jalebi - do you honestly know what you're talking about or are you just prattling on???
I've been helped by Jamati's a lot to get closer to Islam. Also I've met LOADS of people who have been brought onto the right path and also quite a few converts. And we used to meet so many different races of muslims on Jamaat - Malaysians, Africans, Chinese, Bosnians you name it. It was a brilliant experience.
Not to say that they're perfect but they definitely do a lot of good. How can you say they're useless especially considering you can't even see what they're doing first-hand (since you're a female and wouldn't be invited)??? Every point you have made is ridiculous - they do talk a lot with non-muslims and also sometimes our own muslim brothers are not exactly brilliant muslims - they do need help - like me.
Rant over.
Re: Question for men with regards to Jamaat.
Fita, thats her personal experience, no need to fight now, I was just looking for opinions.
Re: Question for men with regards to Jamaat.
well thats not how the jamat thing works here then..these ppl think its wrong to let non-mulims come in our masjid, they think its wrong to communicate with them, a laptop is haram in the masjid n things of that sort. I dont see how anyone with these kind of ideas in their heads can benefit Islam, thats all!
And like i said before, I have never seen them or heard of them accomplish anything. You are probably the second person i have heard get something beneficial out of it.
Re: Question for men with regards to Jamaat.
Its funny how Matsui's sarcastic comments are always ignored in threads like this. Its either that or he gets a big spank by someone who is offended or pretending to be offended.
Re: Question for men with regards to Jamaat.
i ma just giving my experience Afis2000…don;t get your panties in a bunch. I have disdain for all religious pontificators..be they jamaatis, jehovas witnesses, hare krishnas, jews for jesus, devdasis…I don;t give a fk. It is my experience and if you have an issue with what my experience and my outlook is, then why don;t you all pm eachother what you think oinstead of discussing it in the open. ![]()
Re: Question for men with regards to Jamaat.
As I said you won't SEE them accomplish anything unless you're with them. I've seen them helpturn a paki heroine-addict (or ws it cocaine??) into a fully practising muslim. Just one example.
I really doubt that they say not to communiicate with non-muslims. First time I've heard of that.
Woah, laptops are banned - they must be useless.
