Re: As they say in Pakistan: I have a "cushion" (question/concern regarding the sidebar)
^ I agree, a full side menu would be more user friendly, the new quickie menu is just soo annoying!
Re: As they say in Pakistan: I have a "cushion" (question/concern regarding the sidebar)
But faizy, they could be introduced to every page. And they take less space.

something looks weird ![]()
Re: As they say in Pakistan: I have a "cushion" (question/concern regarding the sidebar)
I don't like this "Quickie" bar in the left panel:
Space is wasted on the left side. There is an empty barren wasteland of a space underneath the "Quickie" box.
The main window is shrunk by 15 - 20 %. I have to unnecessarily scroll down the window to read the text. It's very inconvenient and it makes reading posts/threads very cumbersome.
The vertical (rectangular) box doesn't lend enough room for the forum names and descriptions. What are "cul" and "s&p"? Agains, as a reader I have found the acronyms confusing.
All these issues could be rectified if the "Quickie" bar was moved up-top and displayed horizontally.

apparantly you’ll get used to it in five years time
and in 2011 when they change it back you’ll want it to go back to this:cb:
Re: As they say in Pakistan: I have a “cushion” (question/concern regarding the sideb
Sacrificing user experience for a few trinkets. ![]()
Re: As they say in Pakistan: I have a “cushion” (question/concern regarding the sideb
this is really irritating!!!@!#!%!!%^!@&!!***!
You NEVER EVER WASTE THAT MUCH SPACE ON THE LEFT SIDE! its is over 100pixels! - on top of that the navigation stays on top (instead of scrolling) and cannot be closed.

Re: As they say in Pakistan: I have a "cushion" (question/concern regarding the sidebar)
i don't like it either.
Re: As they say in Pakistan: I have a “cushion” (question/concern regarding the sidebar)
First of all the new layout with the left side bar takes lot of valuable real estate and the void space under it makes it less aesthetic.
The designers must have their reasons for the change. If they are planning to put more links and choices there, then it’s another thing otherwise the previous layout (links on top) served the purpose well.
If the designers think the vertical navbars are indispensable at least it can be moved on the right side of the main container box (see screeny).
The current layout is too hard for the eyes, even on a descent monitor resolution.
Suggested Layout:
Re: As they say in Pakistan: I have a “cushion” (question/concern regarding the sidebar)
^ Shabash, that makes more sense.
Since English is read from left to right, the blank space on the left is obviously irritating to the eyes. ![]()
The width of the Quickie bar should be half the current size. That would better suite it’s purpose of clicking and moving on!
The focus should be on the content. I even find the avatars sidebar quite a waste of space but hey! we are Pakistanies..gotta keep the paindo touch somewhere. j/k
Re: As they say in Pakistan: I have a "cushion" (question/concern regarding the sideb
^ err... could live with that - but it is still annoying :o
Re: As they say in Pakistan: I have a "cushion" (question/concern regarding the sidebar)
Among all of you, the only constructive feedback is provided by InfiniteLoop. Great idea. We will c what can be done with it.
Re: As they say in Pakistan: I have a "cushion" (question/concern regarding the sidebar)
thanks loop .. i like it better this way.
Re: As they say in Pakistan: I have a "cushion" (question/concern regarding the sidebar)
the new space will be used to sell ad space, promote our other websites, insert useful content, cross tags to further improve SE ranks, a common theme site link menu, etc. If we did all this horiz. space, you will be crying out louder. :-) ... take a look at another block coming your way soon .. the links are kinda old but u will get teh idea ...
With many of our new projects, we needed a space to integrate the sites under a common framework, and this has been the least intrusive to you. Learn to live with it, please.
Re: As they say in Pakistan: I have a "cushion" (question/concern regarding the sidebar)
Move online users to right side, that will fill up much space.
Re: As they say in Pakistan: I have a "cushion" (question/concern regarding the sidebar)
Could it be more linear, a list of each link, rather than these clumps?
Re: question/concern regarding the sidebar
Not a good implementation...
1) You can't go to any other forums from Games...
2) You can't go to any other forums from journals...
3) Makes the appearance messy and cluttered...
4) Will take time to familiarize oneself with this quickie...
5) Leave less room for text which is basically what a discussion board is...Text...
Sorry...But I think it was an unnecessary and redundant change without which GS looked much better and userfriendly before...
Re: question/concern regarding the sidebar
The work is in progress. When everything is finalized, it'll look good. This is a temporary change. It'll stay this way however, but it will be better looking than this.
