Waise , I mean one gets to see it less now, but still there r songs that have the wordings…like if a guy is singing it, he’ll say “kyon challe gaye”…instead of “gayi”…Even like Awaz band had the same thing in some of its songs…I always used to think that its because of being shy or something …like thats how it is mentioned in poetry…U know saying one and thing and meaning something else…??But after reading some comments that Urdu Literature has done these for some time now..??Ok ..I guess I am confusing myself too.ANy comments or information guys??
Re: Question about Urdu Songs wordings, same sex ones?
^ am confused ... as to what exactly your question is ..
Re: Question about Urdu Songs wordings, same sex ones?
she is asking why the usage is mascuine rather than feminine
e.g. one son that comes to mind is vital signs, tum door thay
so it goes liek
tum door thay
to kya hua
tum mil gaye
toh kya hua
amber is wondering why is it not
tum door theen
to kya hua
tum mil gayeen
toh kya hua

Please don't concentrate on word "sex" in the subject line. ;)

Re: Question about Urdu Songs wordings, same sex ones?
I know the answer but don’t know how to explain it ![]()

Re: Question about Urdu Songs wordings, same sex ones?
^^ at least try...:D
Re: Question about Urdu Songs wordings, same sex ones?
alright lets see…
well in urdu poetry, these words such as “thay, gaye” etc. etc. are used as uni-sex words. Can be used for both.
Its the content of the poetry that tells you if its about a guy or a girl ![]()
or if a guy is singing, just assume that its for a girl…
Re: Question about Urdu Songs wordings, same sex ones?
^^ Really...its used for unisex...is it the old Urdu?...And then there r songs that the singer sings. like if its a guy...Like Khan=maj by Fuzion band , then he is singing from a girl's side...
Re: Question about Urdu Songs wordings, same sex ones?
i don’t know ![]()
don’t ask difficult questions. I don’t know how to explain

Re: Question about Urdu Songs wordings, same sex ones?
Urdu Adab 101 .. too bad you either didn't take it or weren't fortunate enough to have teachers who could explain the whole masculinity deal with sher o shairee's mehboob
Re: Question about Urdu Songs wordings, same sex ones?
I have taken Urdu 101 …which was caalled hurdu literature…:)…But I guess they never touched the subject:bummer:
Re: Question about Urdu Songs wordings, same sex ones?
to my understanding the gender is not an issue when declaring feelings. Poetry is genderless zone. Its the artistic side of things. If you have taken literature then you would be aware of most poets disregarding the gender. Another reason could be that true feelings are above lust so it becomes unisex.Woh kya kehtay hain shairi dil ki awaz hai, u can't be precise, its not custom made.
Re: Question about Urdu Songs wordings, same sex ones?
okay PA here is one more, so when some pathans speak urdu why do they have the gender reversed?
Re: Question about Urdu Songs wordings, same sex ones?
^^ lolzz..that is true
Re: Question about Urdu Songs wordings, same sex ones?
Laakh doori ho magar Ehd nibhaataY rehna
Jub bhee Baarish ho mera soug manaatay rehna
Tum gaYe ho tau sar-e-shaam ye aadat Thehri
Bus kinaaray pay khaRay haath hilaatay rehna

PS: Hamara Jootha mentioned the use of words only attached to Urdu “Poetry” … Poetry is most of the time supposed to be for both genders to relate to and hence use of masculanity…
Re: Question about Urdu Songs wordings, same sex ones?
yara har koi idher udher ki maar raha hay...
simply put.... ALL ur romantic shayeri is done thinking about a mehboob,,, meaning beloved.... mehboob is a masculine word.. hence the whole shair o shayeri using the masculine kahan gaye, tum door thay etc.
Also, keep in mind that theres a concept of ishq e haqiqi involved as well.. which is the love of God... and God is masculine... hence the masculine usage of words/verbs...
