@ Adelaide Oval
Paksian going through to the QF after a more smooth and sedate run chase in the group phase.
Having secured the 3rd place in Group B Pakistan face in the QF one of the co-hosts and probably the Best balanced teams of the tournament sofar. Pakistan yet have to cross the 250 mark against quality opposition. Given the Ground is one of the batting friendliest down under with short square boundaries the men in Green must be prepared to either chase down a good-big total or post themselve someing beyond 285 to give the bowling a chance to defend it.
Aussies on the other hand have been consistently scoring in the excess of 300+ so a good and tough contest awaits the men in green
Re: QF Australia vs. Pakistan 20th March 2015 @ Adelaide (3rd QF)
After an important win against Zimbabwe and putting weak, down and dusted Pakistani team on winning track, we need Zero_One to open this thread because it was his luck combined with the effort of team which won us that crucial match which then open the flood gates of wickets and match winning performances for Pakistan.
Re: QF Australia vs. Pakistan 20th March 2015 @ Adelaide (3rd QF)
What are our odds to put a decent show against mighty aussies?
Aussies so far have no answer to Spin but our main spinner(Ajmal) is out and his assistant (Hafeez) is also not in the squad. Afridi have failed to make any impact by his spin bowling and Yasir Shah have yet to play a match.
If Yasir Shah plays, which bowler have to sit, Ehsan Adil will sit for Mohd Irfan, May be Sohail Khan??? because Rahat Ali is swinging the ball and is capable of drying out the runs.. on the other hand, Sohail Khan has not done bad job either... he have done his part in every win of Pakistan..
So would be sitting out to get Yasir in the side? We do need Afridi for his spin, although he have not been able to trouble batsmen much, but in South Africa it is should also be noticed that Afrdi has been unlucky in that match, two or three catches were dropped..
So Afridi should be there, Haris Sohail can ball few overs.. who else is there???
Re: QF Australia vs. Pakistan 20th March 2015 @ Adelaide (3rd QF)
If pakistan bats 1st they need to put atleast 285+ on board to put aussies batter under pressure
Sofar the aussies have faced only once a proper bowling unit ..... which is NZ and they failed quite emphatically
Bowling:
Irfan is needed to create steep bounce
Rahat is needed as he can swing the ball and apart from Warner most aussies batters are right handed
Wahab is needed coz he has the speed and the most important yorker. He goes for runs at times :(
Afridi is needed coz down the order he may be usefull with the bat (i know i know its Afridi afterall)
One Slot left for a bowler:
- Ehsan: I don't know how impressive he was today. The 1st few overs he went for 4s by pitching it short although he brouhght the breakthrough
- Sohail Khan: He has been useful and among the wickets all the time.
Yasir Shah: At a ground with small square boundaries i wouldn't experiment with the notion of a spinner in a KO match.
Batting:
Sarfraz: his role should be to bat atleast until 35th over
Shehzad: his role to go after the bowling
U. Akmal: Should come in at 3 as he is technically the best batsmen we've and most talented. He is a waste at 5
Haris Sohail: Should come at 4 as he young enough to run hard and steal singles
Shoaib: Should come at 5 as then hope we'll enter the last 10-15 Overs to have some power hitting
Misbah: Should come in at 6 only if needed (to consolidate). But if the situation is dire (2-3 wickets down early) then he should promote himself up the order
Afridi: at 7
Wahab: at 8
Re: QF Australia vs. Pakistan 20th March 2015 @ Adelaide (3rd QF)
I think Pakistan will come out all guns blazing, which might prove to be a good thing. Misbah has said the pressure is on Australia. I was watching Wahab's interview with Wasim and Fleming after the Ireland game and he echoed the same sentiments as Misbah and said there is no pressure on us so we will just attack and attack.
Obviously its easier said that done but that's the only way Pakistan is going to have any chance of winning.

only change i would like to suggest is above is, Let Haris be at no 3 and u akmal at 4. ( in case of 2 quick wickets, u akmal can be sent down the order, u akmal may have good technique but he lacks the temperament and one should not take risk in a KO match)

baqi log team mein kiss liye hein!!
You expect Sarfaraz to keep wickets AND bat till the 35th over
Yes it would help our cause immensely if Sarfaraz or Shehzad or both could bat deep into the innings but all we can really expect from the openers is a good solid start, say 50-60 for none or one after 10 overs. Their main job is to stay at the wicket and take the shine off the two new balls (usu. happens around 12-14th over mark) so batting becomes easier for the rest. Important not to lose too many early wickets
